Jobs in this career family support students' emotional and physical well-being and intellectual, cultural and social development outside the context of the formal instruction program or traditional academic unit.  Functions include student counseling, career guidance, residence life, multicultural affairs, support of student activities and organizations, recreation services and intramural athletics administration. 

Associate Directors are responsible for working closely with the Director to manage a department or specific areas of a department.  These positions recommend strategy, have responsibility for fiscal and/or human resources and have the authority to act on the Director's behalf. 

Nature of Work:
Reporting to the Director for the Office of Disability, Access, and Inclusion (ODAI) at CU Anschutz, we seek a dynamic Associate Director (AD) to join our growing team. The Associate Director is responsible for the management of day-to-day office operations to include: oversight of accommodation decision-making, supervision of staff and oversight of the accommodations budget. Working with Director and campus community to develop strategic goals for CU Anschutz ODAI team that ensures best practice in operations. The Associate Director will provide student and faculty support in the implementation of accommodations, as well as the provision of assistive and adaptive technology, and campus-wide integrated and facilitated assessment. The AD will play a critical leadership role in establishing CU Anschutz as the premier campus for inclusive health professions education.

This position consists of direct support to students, disability-related and education outreach to academic departments as well as outside communities, and supervision of employees. This role will be instrumental in creating an exceptional student and faculty experience. The Associate Director must be able to partner with all areas of the university community, implement best practices regarding policy and practices on a health science campus. The Associate Director will help promote a vibrant, diverse and inclusive, co-curricular learning environment.

Examples of Work Performed:

Maintain caseload of students:

  • Conduct access meetings with students to determine disability status and eligibility for accommodation.
  • Document student interaction, interactive process and decision-making in case notes.
  • Oversees the implementation of approved academic accommodations.
  • Assists with acute interventions and decision-making in consultation with Director and serves as the Director's designee when needed.

Supervise, Training and mentor to the ODAI staff:

  • Provide oversight and supervision of access coordinator decision-making. 
  • Manage confidential student database and report metrics as requested.
  • Liaisons with Schools, Faculty, Course Coordinators, IT, and Director as needed.
  • Oversee note-taking service for students with disabilities.
  • Oversee the process for assistive and adaptive technology needs for students.
  • Assist director in providing ADA training and yearly updates to faculty/staff. 
  • Collaborate with the Director in supporting and developing new strategy by creating, designing and implement best practice for ODAI

Campus & Education Accessibility:

  • Oversee accommodations budget.
  • Oversee MOU with Center for Inclusive Design (CIDE).
  • Assists in monitoring the overall campus accessibility (both programmatic and physical); Manage specific projects/programs related to campus accessibility.
  • Monitors best practices in health science education accessibility and universal design to promote best practices within the department and on the Anschutz campus.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $75,000 to $90,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor degree in education, psychology, health sciences, higher education, counseling, student affairs, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. 
  • 4 or more years of extensive, diverse and progressively responsible professional experience, working with individuals with disabilities in the postsecondary setting. 

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master degree in Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field. 
  • Experience working with students in a health-science campus setting.
  • Experience reviewing medical and/or psychological documentation and working through an interactive process for recommended accommodations. 
  • Experience determining and implementing assistive technology. 
  • Experience with developing educational material.
  • Experience with budget oversight.

  • Ability to mediate regarding disabilities, accommodations, and/or grievances.
  • Knowledge:  Applicable federal and state laws, i.e. Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act & Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act along with relevant case law pertaining to disability in higher education.  The types of accommodations available for students with disabilities in the postsecondary setting.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff.
  • Ability to oversee and make budget decisions related to identified student accommodation needs.
