Function Details
  • The Associate Director is responsible for coordinating assessment, research, and evaluation.
  • Coordinates program review process, assisting departments as needed.
  • Provides consultation, training, and assistant to staff to design assessments and conduct action research.
  • Leads and coordinates student outcomes assessment of co-curricular learning experiences.
  • Implements assessment activities to comply with current Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) accreditation requirements accreditation requirements.
  • Curates a clearinghouse of current tools, practical examples, and literature on research and assessment in higher education.
  • Analyzes and interprets assessment results, including open-ended survey responses, for review and action by administration, faculty, and other stakeholders

  • Conducts research on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Researches a variety of student-related topics in support of the work of the Vice Provost and Associate Provost, using the appropriate advanced statistical techniques and qualitative data methods.
  • Provides high-level analysis on issues impacting students and their experiences at Gonzaga, and analyzes and summarizes data for presentation to campus, system-wide, and community partners.
  • Summarizes research findings and prepares detailed reports including discussion of results and recommendations for using the results to improve programs and/or student learning. Identifies opportunities, provides coordination for grants and award applications as assigned.
  • Responds to research instruments from other organizations such as national associations and other institutions of higher education with an interest in the co-curricular lives of students, as well as student learning outcome processes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • 3-5 years of experience in research, programs, project, or resource management
  • Understanding of organizational rules and regulations
  • Advanced active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to plan, create, program, and manage complex data resources. Familiarity with research techniques and analytical software for quantitative (e.g., Stata, SAS, SPPS) and qualitative data (e.g., ATLAS.ti, NVivo).
  • Working knowledge of social science research and demonstrated ability to write clear, cogent, factually accurate research reports and summaries and to edit the work of others to the same standard.
  • Familiarity and experience with conducting literature reviews and evaluating the quality and significance of social science literature.
  • Ability to read and synthesize scholarly literature and to write articles and summaries on varied research topics.
  • Knowledge of organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (i.e., Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA)
  • Ability to provide good judgment and decision-making, problem solving
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and professional communication skills to collaborate with university faculty, administrators, staff, and students and externally
