ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Sports Nutrition will provide individual and group team sports nutrition counseling and education to enhance the health and performance of all student- athletes. The position is primarily responsible for nutrition assessment and counseling; translating the latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition recommendations; tracking and documenting outcomes of nutrition services; serving as a food and nutrition resource for coaches, foodservice staff, the sports medicine team, and athletic administration; providing sports nutrition education for USF athletic teams; and participating in the teaching activities of the Athletic Medicine Department; directs program projects and delegates responsibilities to staff sports nutritionists, interns and volunteers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
NUTRITION COUNSELING  -Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and nutrition and performance associated health risks. -Counsel students and athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training, competition, recovery, weight management, recovery from illness and injury, hydration, and supplementation. -Provide MNT as needed to help manage or treat medical conditions. -Coordinate nutrition care as a member of multidisciplinary athletic medicine team. -Collaborate with athletic medicine staff members and other health professionals. -Evaluate all nutritional supplements for legality, safety, and quality considerations; monitors use of appropriate supplementation. -Assist in developing and maintaining nutrition related policies and protocols.
NUTRITION EDUCATION -Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or campaigns on performance nutrition topics. -Recommend appropriate pre-, during, and post- exercise fluid and fueling strategies for individuals and team practices and competition. -Serve as a nutrition resource for coaches, sports medicine staff, athletic administration, and foodservice management personnel. -Develop resources to support educational efforts. Conducts grocery store tours, dining hall tours, cooking demonstrations for hands on educational experiences for student athletes. Creates educational sports nutrition packets for incoming freshman and transfer student athletes.
ADMINISTRATION Serves as the Head Sports Nutritionist and provides oversight to the other staff dieticians. Directs programs projects and delegates responsibilities to the second staff nutritionists, interns, and volunteers. Develops annual budget requirements for sports nutrition department needs. Manages usage of Powerade products and tracking inventory and placing orders as needed. -Assumes administrative responsibilities regarding tracking of pre-participation exam nutrition screenings on student athletes. -Coordinates iron testing protocol and collaborates with team physicians on micronutrient testing and supplementation as needed. -Oversees the Eating Disorder Treatment Team. -Assumes administrative responsibilities with regard to electronic medical record. -Serve as an additional resource to USF Health and campus community. Serves as a representative on various committees including Eating Disorder Treatment Team. Collaborates with other Campus health Nutritionist on University wide events. -Perform other duties as directed by Director of Athletic Medicine.
NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS -Serves as the Department contact for issues related to nutrition supplements. -Research, evaluate, and recommend appropriate nutritional supplements with regard to NCAA rules, regulations, and nutrition related bylaws. -Evaluate and recommend appropriate nutritional supplements for health and performance enhancement. -Work with teams, administration, and athletic medicine staff on purchasing and distributing appropriate nutritional supplements. -Approves supplemental purchases for Department and assists with supervision and maintenance of nutrition supplement policies and procedures
FOODSERVICE and NUTRITION PLANNING -Assists Athletic Department with development of food service contracts for Athletic Training Table as well as catering for Department functions. -Advises Athletic Department on long range plans for development of the athlete?s access to sport performance-based quality dining. -Develops Training Table menus with chef and promotes ongoing nutrition education at the Training Table; ensures effective, quality performance meals. -Assist teams with nutritional needs and meal planning for domestic and international travel. -Assist with evaluation and feedback of Training Table meals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Master's degree degree from a regionally accredited institution. in nutrition, exercise physiology, or related field.
PREFERRED:
Three years of experience working as a dietitian, preferably with the college-aged population and or athletes in a collegiate environment. Sound clinical nutrition skills and strong background in sports nutrition and or exercise physiology needed. Excellent computer, presentation, organizational and time management skills necessary. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently. Should have knowledge of eating disorder signs, symptoms, and treatments; anthropometric measurements; food service quality and safety procedures; and rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:

Licensed or eligible as a Dietician by Florida Department of Health.
