The Center for Research Informatics (CRI) is an organization within the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) that provides informatics resources and services to BSD faculty. Four main services comprise the CRI's operations: applications development, bioinformatics, IT infrastructure and scientific computing, and clinical research data warehousing/business intelligence. Through these service lines, the CRI enables research of the highest scientific merit and advances the state of the art of clinical and translational informatics. Job Summary
 

This position provides leadership and direction for the Scientific Computing team in the Center for Research Informatics. The team supports complex computational infrastructure for biomedical research.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages the team responsible for Scientific Computing infrastructure and operations in the CRI.

  • Provides leadership and direction for evaluation, procurement, design, implementation, and support for Scientific Computing infrastructure.

  • Is responsible for developing and delivering Scientific Computing workshops to the BSD research community.

  • Manages the creation of standards and procedures to maintain production servers that run the operating system. Manages the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems and utility software.

  • Manages a single team's progress by maintaining accurate and up-to-date logs, ensures that all projects have the necessary management oversight and approvals for successful completion.

  • Ensures the implementation of approved best practices and information technology policies that result in the highest quality systems administration.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience with scientific programming.

  • Experience providing GNU/Linux and resource scheduler systems administration.

  • Experience in enforcing and monitoring network and system security policies.

  • Experience supporting research environments with HIPAA requirements.

  • Experience with configuration management and automation.

  • Experience of direct supervision over staff.

  • Experience in providing support to scientific software developers and scientists in a biomedical environment.

Preferred Competencies

  • Expertise in system administration issues in mid to large sized and complex research computing environments.

  • Technical expertise in managing large scale parallel (e.g. GPFS/Lustre) storage systems.

  • Outstanding skills to identify and diagnose complex, non-intuitive technical problems.

  • Excellent supervisory and staff management skills.
