Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Programs in English for Academic and Professional Success (PEAPS) serves as deputy to the University Director and provides advanced and diversified administrative and academic oversight for current programs as well as for the development of pre-university, undergraduate, and graduate initiatives on both the Metropolitan and Florham campuses, as well as on-line and in international locations.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to: contributing to the development of EPS (English for Professional Success) and ESL (English as a Second Language) curriculum; creating, proctoring, and scoring exams; participating in ongoing academic research on best practices and analysis of data to improve courses, programs, assessment practices, and student learning outcomes; conducting, tabulating, and analyzing survey data; making recommendations based on data analysis; developing and delivering professional development activities for adjunct instructors; observing adjunct classroom teaching and mentoring new adjunct faculty; and participation in textbook evaluation and selection processes.
Responsibilities also include: communicating department, college, and University policies, procedures, and practices to students and faculty to ensure compliance; initiating, coordinating, and monitoring record keeping and activities related to faculty, staff, students, and alumni; supervising the work of student and professional administrative support staff; maintaining and monitoring the office budget; managing confidential personnel matters; organizing and coordinating activities and special events; acting as liaison with all FDU departments and offices; monitoring and researching non-academic issues or concerns; coordinating course scheduling and maintaining faculty and student records; and maintaining archives of student course work for assessment purposes.
This position reports to the University Director of Programs in English for Academic and Professional Success (PEAPS); the Associate Director is expected to work independently and collaboratively on day-to-day tasks and special short- and long-term projects, as assigned by the University Director, and to assume a leadership role in carrying out such projects.
Required Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree required in TESOL, English, Communication, or a related field demonstrating expertise in English as a Second Language (ESL).
2. A minimum of five years of experience required in teaching ESL or English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses in higher education in North America.
3. A minimum of five years of experience required in administrative work, preferably in a multi-faceted, fast-paced work environment, including office management responsibilities interfacing with multiple organizational units.
4. Experience in budget management required including experience with analysis of financial and budgetary data.
5. High-level of proficiency in the use of diverse technologies for data processing, data analysis and reporting as well as applications relevant to tasks for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics, and online services required; proficiency in or ability to learn current software programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Project, WordPress, Wix, and Ellucian, required.
6. Proficiency in using Social Media platforms, e.g., lnstagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Wix, YouTube, and Tumblr as well as photo- and video-editing applications required.
7. Proficiency in using or ability to learn to use academic research and database software including, but not limited to, JSTOR, Lexis-Nexis, EBSCO Host, and Google Scholar, required.
8. Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate successfully with diverse international populations; problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively and to keep the Unit’s office and all its projects functioning in a well-organized manner required.
9. Ability to manage sensitive issues with decorum and confidentiality required.
10. Valid driver’s license and accessibility to transportation for travel between the Florham and Metropolitan campuses required.
11. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
