The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides leadership, support, training, and enterprise IT services that empower students, faculty, and staff. ROLE of the POSITION

The Associate Director of Instructional Technology Services provides leadership and operational direction both within the Instructional Technology Services unit and in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) as a whole. The Associate Director supports the mission of the university by helping to set and advance OIT strategic goals that align with those of the institution. The Associate Director is responsible for making programmatic and financial decisions and leading strategic and tactical initiatives that address emerging campus needs. The Associate Director is expected to foster OIT values across the organization and create an environment of cooperation and collegiality within Instructional Technology Services (ITS), with other OIT units, and across the campus community.

The Instructional Technology Services unit includes classroom technology, student computer labs, and instructional technology management. The Associate Director is also responsible for oversight and management of ITS, managing ITS budget/finance issues, as well as ensuring operational processes are within accepted best practices and are in alignment with support requirements.

The Associate Director leads OIT instructional technology projects and takes ownership of collecting data, reporting metrics, and measuring success. The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring that members of ITS understand the overall structure and operation of OIT as a whole in order to contribute fully to the mission of the organization.

The Associate Director is expected to work with all UNLV units involved with instructional technology, particularly those that impact students and faculty through the provision of instructional technology services including learning space design, classroom technology, digital learning, learning management systems, technology-enhanced teaching facilities, and technology integration into the curriculum. Because support for instructional technology is distributed among several units within and outside of OIT, the ability to build strong relationships and partnerships based on cooperation and trust is an essential skill required for this job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university (doctorate preferred), and a minimum of 5 years of related professional experience and 5 years of related managerial experience. Experience in higher education is required. ITIL Foundations Certificate is preferred.

Candidates who have teaching experience are favored as the ability to relate and show empathy to the challenges of the teaching faculty brings credibility, insight, and the ability to be more effective in the role. Experience with event management is also preferred. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of best practices in project management, operations, and continuous service improvement.

SKILLS

Required

  • Experience preparing and implementing mid-to long-range plans based on multiple sources of input that reflect the overall goals of the university, OIT, and the unit for which the position is responsible.

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience managing complex information technology services organizations within a university setting specifically complex educational technology ecosystems that intersect with student information systems, faculty information systems, and other technologies.

  • A commitment to staff development and the skills necessary to provide mentoring and support for continuous career development.

  • Experience as a manager or supervisor of technical professionals and projects within a technology environment.

  • Experience evaluating and implementing new practices and technologies to improve an organization's overall programs and services.

  • Excellent customer service skills as demonstrated by the ability to work directly with constituents and vendors to understand and resolve function and/or technical issues and concerns and meet customer needs.

  • Experience as a manager or supervisor of instructional technology projects, preferably within a large research one public institution.

  • Experience with classroom/audio visual technology, educational technologies (e.g., learning management systems, video hosting systems, web conferencing systems, student response systems, and maker spaces).

  • Experience supporting digital learning technologies and their application to evidence-based instructional practices.

  • Experience developing and maintaining vendor relationships to ensure purchase of appropriate products and services, reasonable prices, and excellent service and support.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals, including senior technical and non-technical leadership.

  • The ability to plan and implement measures to ensure the unit is fully staffed with personnel that have the skills necessary to respond with solutions that support university and OIT goals.

  • The ability to be flexible, provide realistic resource requirements, develop methods for prioritizing ever-changing needs, create measurable objectives, and be accountable.

  • The ability to manage fiscal resources both individually and in collaboration with members of a leadership team.

  • The ability to prioritize multiple requests for services from a broad constituent base including Vice Presidents, Deans, and Directors of major administrative units (e.g., Academics, Finance, Human Resources, Student Affairs, Facilities).

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical and technical audiences.

  • The commitment and ability to communicate effectively within the unit, across the OIT organization, and with the campus community.

  • The ability and willingness to promote and sustain awareness of the services offered by and responsibilities of all units with OIT.

  • The ability to work with all UNLV units involved with instructional technology including the Library, the Faculty Center, Online Education, Educational Outreach, Student Services, Decision Support, and all schools, colleges, departments, and other units on campus.

  • Evidence of leadership in providing quality customer service.

  • A commitment to service as an organizational value and an ability to assist staff in reflecting the value of service in their day-to-day activities.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining collegial relationships within OIT and with other units on campus.

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.  The position is contingent upon funding with a minimum starting salary of $117,000.
