JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Associate Director of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics will be responsible for supporting the design, development and ongoing enhancement of business insights and analytics across all business units within the University.  The Associate Director will be someone who loves to bring data together to answer complex business questions that support the realization of operational and Momentum strategic goals.  Working closely with the Assistant Provost, the Associate Director will collaborate with the information technology, finance, marketing, and enrollment management teams to synthesize and derive business insights and strategic guidance to the decision makers on those teams.  The Associate Director will provide leadership to the Institutional Research analysts on various analytical projects throughout their lifecycle, from conceptual and methodological design through to the presentation of findings. In this role, you will be expected to understand business objectives and deliver clear and meaningful insights, thoughts, and action plans.  The incumbent will function as a data steward and will be responsible for working with other departments to provide insights into business related issues as they relate to and impact marketing and the organization at large.  The Associate Director will then be responsible for understanding the business need, mining data and ultimately analyzing, reporting and presenting those findings with actionable insights.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

1. Be intimately familiar with marketing-generated data (on-line and offline), external vendor data and data created and stored by other internal groups including enrollment management, operations and metrics functions. 

2. Access raw data using SAS and/or SQL programming and then aggregate to summarize results.

3. Create complex ad hoc reports and analysis, which require use of multiple data stores.

4. Acquire and stage data for use by numerous analysts within and outside the department.

5. Analyze and recommend areas for additional analysis.

6. Troubleshoot automated processes as necessary.

7. Support the effective usage of Analytics for existing day-to-day business analytic tools and the development of other tools/analytics for new business areas and opportunities.

8. Extract meaning from analytics outputs, develop strategy and execution plans, ensure proper actions are taken, and track results/KPIs.

9. Identify new advanced analytic requests and new data sources for further evaluation.

10. Partner with business partners to compile requirements for analytic solution expansion.

11. Document and communicate status of projects and initiatives to senior team members.

12. Identifies and acquires necessary data from multiple sources and organizes/cleans/transforms the information to enhance data quality.

13. Develops requested solutions/analyses, and then articulates methodology and results in an understandable fashion.

14. Prepares solution documentation/reports to form an adequate basis for reporting analysis results to management.

15. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Strong communication skills with an ability to translate complex analytical results into actionable recommendations through compelling and easy-to-digest reports and presentations.

2. Ability to handle multiple work assignment manage multiple projects and priorities; and provide technical leadership in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.

3. Demonstrate expertise in collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to generate fact-based recommendations and measurement of performance.

4. Working knowledge of various analytical and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, and Domo).

5. Provides a high level of Business Intelligence (enrollment, marketing and operational analysis) reporting to all levels of management throughout the organization.

6. Creates reports and dashboards.

7. Use advanced research methodology to analyze national and international higher education trends.

8. Prepare reports to support program planning, recruitment management as well as policy assessment.

9. Prepare and submit federal, state, and institutional data requirements.

10. Manage large-scale student, employee, and course database.

11. Strong analytical and communication skills, and a passion for using data to drive decision-making at the operational and strategic levels.

12. Will leverage on all available data sources to “connect the dots” and derive practical insights that facilitate strategic and operational decision-making.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Advanced degree such as an MBA or Master’s Degree in relevant disciplines (e.g., Data Science, Engineering, Applied Sciences) required.

2. Three plus years of professional experience in educational environment.

3. Five plus years of professional experience in business analytics or other quantitative discipline in data-centric business environment, preferably within the education industry is required.
