Position Focus:

Reporting to the Director of Enrollment Management & Diversity Initiatives, assist in the development, implementation and administration of departmental and University policies, procedures and regulations related to student services, particularly focusing on the comprehensive need-based financial aid program for YSE Master’s students.

1. Plan, develop and implement comprehensive enrollment management services for prospective and current students. This includes serving as the primary financial aid officer at YSE, assisting students with completing financial aid applications, determining eligibility for funds, explaining the terms and conditions of financial aid awards, reviewing student accounts, resolving billing errors and discussing financing options. 2. Together with the Director, develop and maintain YSE Financial Aid policy, procedures and training manual. Create all financial aid application materials, consumer information, and publications; review and update YSE bulletin, website and all other documents pertaining to financial aid policy and procedures at YSE. Support the development, design and implement a financial literacy program for Master’s students. 3. With guidance from the Director, responsible for all YSE Masters financial aid applicants each year, performing need analysis and determining financial aid awards (using federal, institutional, state and private funds). Determine appropriate financial aid award adjustments for review requests and loan and budget adjustment petitions; discuss such changes with students. 4. Lead long-range planning for the financial aid component of the YSE enrollment management plan. Collaborate with other Office of Admissions & Financial Aid employees at YSE to create a comprehensive enrollment management plan to attract, enroll and retain the highest quality students for the Master’s degree. 5. Develop and analyze statistical data to determine patterns and trends that impact and inform the direction of financial aid, and potentially yield rates for admissions. Work with Director to utilize statistical data collected in financial aid to develop recruitment and admissions plans. 6. Provide guidance, advice and counseling to prospective and current students as well as alumni via telephone, in-person visits, written inquiries and email. Assist them with complex financial aid and billing issues. 7. Forecast and develop financial aid spending plan. Assess technology needs of the financial aid aspect of the office. 8. Ensure compliance with all Title IV, federal, state and University financial aid regulations and audits. 9. Communicate with other campus offices and outside agencies regarding financial aid and/or billing concerns. Assist the YSE Office of Development and Alumni Services with scholarship and development activities, including but not limited to, scholarship stewardship. 10. Co-supervise and co-train Senior Administrative Assistant for Admissions & Financial Aid together with Director. 11. May perform other duties assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and four years of experience in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Ability to lead, strong interpersonal and management skills, and the talent to meet all deadlines and hit all budgetary and other target.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability with need-based financial aid processes and procedures, familiarity with tax returns and an ability to maintain confidentiality.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to think creatively, problem solve, and work independently and as a part of a team.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Computer skills, preferably with an integrated student information system and desktop tools including Word and Excel.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Exceptional customer service skills, as well as communication skills both verbal and written.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, or the environment; familiarity with environmental issues; experience conducting data analysis, developing and implementing diversity initiatives, planning and implementing events, and development of marketing materials
