Overview of Associate Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Purdue University Northwest's Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is seeking an Associate Director.  The Office of EDI is responsible for promoting and enhancing a culture of inclusivity, ethical behavior, equitable treatment, equal access and equal opportunity for all community members.  The Associate Director of EDI is responsible for communicating policies and procedures, mediating informal complaints, promoting equal opportunity, equal access and affirmative action efforts, conducting investigations, and serving as the Americans with Disabilities Coordinator as well as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
This position has the flexibility to work in a hybrid working environment at both Hammond and Westville, IN campuses


Duties and Responsibilities of Associate Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Communicate information to involved parties on policies and procedures enforced by EDI.
  • Conduct thorough fact finding investigations into allegations of harassment and/or discrimination involving students, faculty, or staff pursuant to the Formal Resolution Process of the Procedures for Resolving Complaints of Discrimination and Harassment ("Procedures").  Analyze information gathered throughout the investigations and write concise reports.  Participate in panel meetings and answer any questions regarding the case(s).
  • Mediate informal complaints pursuant to the Informal Resolution Process of the Procedures.
  • Promote equal opportunity, equal access, and affirmative action efforts.  Assist with developing and evaluating the annual affirmative action plans.
  • Serve as a resource person in matters related to affirmative action, equal opportunity, equal access, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title IX, other Civil Rights Laws, anti-harassment, and nondiscrimination. 
  • Serve as the ADA Coordinator.  Manage the ADA Interactive Process for employees requesting reasonable accommodations. Process accommodation requests for campus events. Address accessibility concerns pursuant to the University's Electronic Information, Communication and Technology Accessibility Standard.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty search committees to review process and procedures and develop search strategies. Assist, as needed, with faculty recruitment.  Duties may include meeting with hiring supervisor and assisting search committees.  Review and recommend strategies to recruit and retain diverse employees.
  • Assist with developing and facilitating educational and professional development programs.
  • Serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
  • Participate in committees/working groups relevant to the responsibilities of EDI.

Education of Associate Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management or related field preferred
  • Law degree preferred

Experience of Associate Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • 6 years experience investigating and/or resolving grievances/complaints.
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations relating to affirmative action, equal access, and equal opportunity
  • Title IX, ADA compliance, and University experience preferred
  • Experience developing and facilitating educational and professional development programs preferred
