Position Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The School’s curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.
Position Summary
 The position will be located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. 
The Associate Director of Development will be responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of School of Social Work major gift prospects at the level of $50,000 or greater from individual alumni and friends of the School of Social Work, and will have other related responsibilities. The Associate Director will also assist with the proposal development and solicitation of corporate and foundation prospects. 
This position will work collaboratively with the other members of the advancement and communications teams to craft donor engagement and solicitation strategy, draft proposals and create stewardship plans. Up to 50% travel is required. While most of the travel will be in-state, out of state travel will also be occasionally required. 
In collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean, the Associate Director will build relationships with the school’s leadership, faculty, and key donors and prospects and will have significant interaction with alumni volunteers. The Associate Director will plan an integrated program of activities that will maximize initiatives tailored to develop each prospect’s awareness, understanding, involvement and commitment to the School of Social Work’s priorities. This includes celebratory events, high touch contact with prospects, reporting to volunteers, and stewardship.
The Associate Director will also assist with management of the School of Social Work’s Board of Advisors. 
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills and superior written and verbal communication skills required. Working knowledge of database management required as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office.

* A high energy level and a strong desire to be successful.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
* Proficiency with with a comprehensive donor database is desirable.
