Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Acts independently to create, implement, and steward corporate and foundation relationships for the IU Lilly School of Philanthropy.
  • Works with the Eugene R. Tempel Dean, Executive Director for Development, Associate Dean for Research and International Programs, and faculty, this position provides the leadership to direct and coordinate planning, negotiation, mediation and implementation of school-wide partnerships over extended time periods.
  • Oversees development new foundation and corporate relationships and leveraging existing ones as well as the analysis of geographic areas, conducting prospect research, develop solicitation plans, plan contacts, and coordinate stewardship efforts.  
  • Develops and implements the overall strategy for the School's foundation and corporate fundraising efforts.

General Responsibilities

  • Working in collaboration with department, school, and/or campus development officers and with consultation from Business Partnerships Consultants, develops, cultivates, and leverages corporate and foundation relationships to secure funding for operations, research, and joint initiatives.
  • Works in coordination with Business Partnerships Consultants to set overall timelines, budget, goals, solicitation strategies, stewardship activities, and donor recognition strategies.
  • Determines internally, in consultation with other development and fiscal staff, the funding needs of the department, school, and/or campus and sets corporate funding goals. Tracks and reports on progress toward goals.
  • Maintains a portfolio of corporate donors from solicitation of prospective supporters, development of proposals for donor prospects, and oversight of negotiations to finalize agreements, maintaining adherence to budget and time line.
  • Provides reports for corporate and foundation donors and provides timely, consistent follow-up with requests for information and answers to inquiries, ensuring the quality and integrity of the donor experience and advancing the reputation of Indiana University.
  • Hosts on-site information events and travels to attend corporate events and/or meet with prospective or current corporate or foundation partners to cultivate relationships and secure funding.
  • Develops strategies to expand and continue corporate and corporate foundation support, including efforts in communication, target events/travel, and corporate donor recognition.
  • Researches industry trends; makes and implements process and policy recommendations to supervisor for improved operational efficiency. Establishes and implements procedures necessary for acknowledging corporate revenue streams.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years experience in fundraising/development, sales, communications, public relations, a higher education foundation, or related field

Preferred

  • 7 years of grant writing experience
  • International foundation experience

  • Technical and software skills in the following areas: Microsoft Office suite (particularly Word and Excel), Blackbaud, Microsoft Teams, Project management, Workfront (IUF), Document processing, Adobe Acrobat, Data analysis and reporting, Tableau Other CRMs, Salesforce

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs. 

The budgeted salary range for this position is $71,000 - $83,000 annual.
