Associate Director of Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic leader to join our team. Penn State Campus Recreation is committed to, and accountable for, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms. Working collaboratively with and reporting to the Manager of Athletic Services 4 for Campus Recreation, this position will serve as a high-level leader for the department of Campus Recreation. Campus Recreation, within Student Affairs, provides recreational and wellbeing programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing programming, Intramural Sports, the IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Outdoor Adventures, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, the Tennis Center, and White Building. The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the centralized administrative/business services functions in Campus Recreation including, but not limited to, business services, customer service, and membership services. This position will manage, direct, and support the day-to-day operations including the development, management, and oversight of budgets of more than 14 million dollars. The successful candidate will ensure systems and trainings are developed and implemented which align for full compliance with university policies and best practices associated with cash handling, purchasing, procurement, payroll and hiring. This position will directly supervise two Assistant Directors and indirectly supervise four full-time professional staff and more than 60 student employees. The ability to develop and prepare long-range strategic plans for the development and growth of Campus Rec centralized services areas is critical. Ancillary duties include serving on and/or leading University, Student Affairs and other work groups and committees.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree in educational administration, recreation or sport management, business administration, or a related field is preferred. This position requires independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the senior leadership as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment, as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental initiatives and efforts. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees and participants is essential.

CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. The ASR is available for review here .
