Position Description

This position oversees all aspects of facilities/grounds management and maintenance of a large athletic complex. Oversees all planning, scheduling and review of maintenance and operational procedures associated with 76 acres of land and 20 buildings in the Athletics' portfolio. Works in accordance with NCAA and industry best practices. Manages all utilities, mechanical and infrastructure systems for the athletics physical plant. Conducts routine inspections of all facilities, resolves maintenance issues, proposes facility improvements, initiates repairs to, replacement of, or purchase of equipment. Oversees the delivery of services from on-campus and external vendors. Manages the department's building management software system including generating service contracts, budget reports, work requests and invoice processing. Plans and manages construction and renovation projects. Communicates with University administrators, coaches and student-athletes on the status of projects and maintenance activities, including facility availability. Assists with event management for intercollegiate athletic contests and special events. Maintain high level of customer service.

Position requires weekend and evening work, as well as being on call.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 7 years of experience managing athletic facilities or relevant athletic administration experience in a college or professional sports setting required.
  • Supervisory experience required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Should have general knowledge of trades and construction processes; financial and accounting practices; and fitness/wellness trends and standards. Should have strong management skills. Experience managing large athletics facilities including arenas, stadiums, ice rinks, natural and artificial playing surfaces and swimming pools desired. Should have experience managing multi-purpose facilities and converting athletic facilities into concert and special event venues, including venues with high seating capacity.

Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to work with and relate well to a diverse group of athletes, administrators, and University constituents, needed. Strong planning and analytical skills needed. Knowledge of NCAA and Ivy League rules preferred. Experience serving on emergency management teams desirable.

Must be administratively self-sufficient and be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Paradox, Frontpage or other web-based software applications, as well as scheduling systems preferred. Knowledge of video boards and scoreboards/ timing systems technology as well as large scale audio systems preferred. Knowledge of building automation, monitoring and security systems desirable.

Ability and willingness to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, cold).

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable).
