POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Einstein is one of the nation’s premier research-intensive medical schools. It is home to more than 2,000 full-time faculty members who promote research and academic excellence at the College of Medicine. In addition to conducting research in the institution's 300 laboratories, Einstein’s faculty serve as mentors and teachers to the medical school's 740 MD students, 194 PhD students, 118 MD/PhD students, and 240 postdoctoral research fellows. More than 9,000 Einstein alumni are among the nation's foremost clinicians, biomedical scientists, and medical educators. Einstein has NIH-funded research centers in aging, intellectual and developmental disorders, diabetes, cancer, opioid use disorder, clinical and translational research, and AIDS (https://einsteinmed.edu/departments/ ).

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director, Medical Science Training Program. The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s oldest. From the start, our goal has been to train a diverse group of outstanding students to become future leaders of academic medicine and medical research. Continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1964, the Einstein MSTP has over 550 illustrious alumni   with careers spanning the spectrum from basic science research to clinical medicine and many variations in between.

We seek a research-active, physician-scientist to serve as Associate Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). 

Responsibilities include:

-MSTP program administration and student advising 

  • Annual review of student IDPs
  • Review ~150 MSTP applications/year to recommend: interview or preliminary reject
  • Organize and attend Summer Series 2 x 20 minute chalk talks by new faculty for entering first year students
  • Organize and attend monthly Career Trajectory lecture series for fifth year MSTP students Save
  • Attend :Admission committee meetings: MSTP Retreat; Annual MSTP Executive Committee meeting;  Annual Orientation for entering students MSTP Leadership monthly meetings; ABRCMS meetings; AAMC MD-PhD Section/GREAT Group meeting and  NIH Graduate Fair for recruitment
  • Read and edit sections of the MSTP training grant application

-Maintain a vibrant, NIH-grant funded research program

-Participate in teaching/directing MSTP-specific and other MD or PhD courses

-Participate in MSTP, departmental, and college-wide committees and activities

If applicable, participate in clinical patient care


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this position should be a physician-scientist, MD or MD-PhD, with an independent, well-established, laboratory-based, R01 NIH-grant supported research program at the Professor level.

The candidate should have experience training MD-PhD and/or PhD students to thesis completion in their lab.

Experience in the operation/administration of an MSTP or T32 predoctoral training program is desirable, but not required.

Salary Verbiage

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is listed below. Albert Einstein College of Medicine considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.


Minimum Salary Range

USD $150,000.00/Yr.


Maximum Salary Range

USD $200,000.00/Yr.
