Position Summary
The Associate Director of Marketing and Business is responsible for developing all aspects of annual/strategic marketing plan for University Recreation (URec) and Competitive Gaming (Esports). The Associate Director works closely with the University Communications and Student Affairs staff to develop and implement programs to promote and market the Student Activity Center, URec programming which includes Competitive Gaming (Esports) and various areas of Student Affairs. The Associate Director is responsible for sponsorship sales, membership sales and overall departmental revenue generating initiatives. The Associate Director coordinates social media, promotions with media outlets, community partners and campus collaborators, assists with coordinating advertising internally and externally in a variety of media outlets, which include social media, print publications, presentations and preparing advertising settlements. The Associate Director is also responsible for the overall management of the Business Operations for URec, including business development, grant coordination, customer service, student personnel and university wide collaborations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related.
5 years’ experience in marketing events, programs and facilities.
Experience creating strategic marketing plans.
Assessment and evaluation experience.
Sponsorship sales experience.
Grant development experience.
Budget experience.
Personnel management experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Experience with information technology.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintains an ongoing integrated marketing and service plan related to URec and works with University Communications in designing and distributing marketing materials and social media posts, both for internal and external clients and ensures fiscal compliance; coordination of advertising, promotion, and sales efforts and attainment of strategic performance goals.
Performs marketing, promotional, relationship-building, and sales activities in support of growth of URec, Competitive Gaming (Esports) and Student Affairs, including: Identifying and cultivating new sponsors and partners, such as corporations, local businesses, foundations, service organizations and campus partners.
Develops information for support of effective marketing initiatives.
Attends public relations events, meetings, university events, and promotion-related activities to position URec for collaboration and new initiatives.
Negotiates media buys and coordinates promotions with media outlets, community partners and campus collaborators.
Conducts on-going assessment of all URec operations including surveys, market analysis, needs assessments, etc.
Develops and manages protocols for use of all marketing tools including website, social media platforms, marquee, digital signage, publication etc.
Pursues prospective clients and new revenue-producing initiatives.
Develops, implements, and monitors budget lines related to the primary functions of this position.
Conducts marketing, sales training, and orientation training of staff as assigned.
Coordinates all website activity and social media content for URec, in conjunction with University Communication.
Serves as the URec development officer in coordinating fundraising efforts with the Advancement office.
Responsible for the supervision of professional, support staff and student personnel.
Represents department on several relevant university and community committees.
Coordinates grant writing efforts for the department.
Conducts special projects as assigned.
