General Requirements:


Bachelor's Degree in related field. Master's Degree desirable. Five years of experience in senior college administration, specifically, with academic advising. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:


Plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations for Student Advising. Performs moderately complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning for Student Advising.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):


Serves as a contact between the Student Advising and Mentoring Center at Sam Houston State University and community colleges with which the university has articulation agreements. Serves as a liaison between the advising sector of the SAM Center and those offices which complement advising, i.e. Admissions, Registrar, Career Services, and Financial Aid. Responsible for participating in the total academic advising agenda, keeping track of changes in curriculum and policies which directly influence advising. Informs advisors of academic changes which affect advising. Assists with training of advisors and others in relation to advising needs. Coordinates activities for advisors. Serves as a contact to departmental advisors and chairs. Serves as a resource for academic advisors concerning departmental programs and changes in degree requirements. Responds to email and other communication from prospective students, current students, faculty, and personnel from other colleges and universities. Helps to plan orientation programs for entering students and develop appropriate programs for transfer students. Performs other related duties as assigned.
