Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Associate Director for Research Financial Services and Grant Management - Boca Raton, FL.

Under the supervision of the Director of Research Programs and the Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship, the Associate Director for Research and Financial Services and Grant Management leads and oversees the planning, compliance, and day to day operations of the College of Nursing’s pre- and post-award sponsored research. The Associate Director is expected to deliver high-quality, customer-focused solutions for investigators conducting basic research and all forms of clinical inquiry from a range of funding sources including private foundations and state, local, and federal government funding agencies, interacting with CON leadership, faculty, and staff to facilitate planning, execution, and administration for grant-related initiatives.

The Associate Director works closely with faculty and research staff to apply for and manage grants received by the College. This position may include special projects related to strategic and financial planning for research funding growth and tracking and reporting of sponsored research metrics, process improvement, technology solutions, and assist with policy creation.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Support and build Novelution (FAU’s grant sub‐mission software) grant proposal package submissions.

  • Ensure all financial and budgetary transactions are processed in a timely manner and is following pre and post award activities of grant-related business processes of the CON.

  • Process post-award financial transactions related to internal CEL CON grant funding (such as ove head and start-up accounts, CEL awards) and pilot-scale awards. 

  • Provide CEL CON researchers with regular financial reports.

  • Provide guidance to college faculty during the proposal development process by interpreting sponsor guidelines, providing templates, and assisting with budget development.

  • Coordinate with the Office for Sponsored Programs to ensure smooth proposal submissions and new award set-ups.

  • Contribute to and manage decisions regarding internal funding.

  • Serve as a member on the Research and Scholarship Forum (RSF) and any other committees as assigned.

  • Supervise and coordinate research submission process and procedures and other pre‐proposal reviews.

  • Serve as the Budget Manager and provide review for all proposals routing through the College of Nursing – Office of Nursing Research and Sponsor Programs.

  • Work with Research Accounting Office to ensure timely financial reporting and invoicing.

  • Monitor spending on awards for compliance with federal, university, and sponsor regulations.

  • Pre-and post-award management of a higher-complexity research portfolio including proposal development process and budget development, award set-up, maintenance, reporting and closeout. 

  • Process costing allocations, payroll/accounting adjustments, budget amendments and grant-   related travel requests.            

  • Facilitate progress report submissions, no-cost extensions, and re-budget requests as necessary.

  • Monitor federal and sponsored research related policies and communicate changes to researchers and their teams.

  • Work as a liaison to college faculty to answer questions, research, analyze, and resolve problems on new, existing, or terminated grant-making initiatives.

  • Provide input for reports and graphs to College and University leadership, as well as external reports.

  • Manage decisions regarding internal funding.

  • Provide support and guidance to ensure both technology resources and processes are streamlined, automated and efficiencies are continuously being assessed.

  • Work closely with the Dean of the College of Nursing, the Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship (ADRS) in the College of Nursing, Division of Research (DR) units, FAU Foundation, Research Deans, and other members of the FAU community to share information and provide support to faculty.

  • Serves as a backup for other team members when needed, and performs other tasks and duties as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Experience with Workday and Novelution strongly preferred.
Supervisory experience in a research office administrative team.
Experience using grant search engines such as GrantForward, Pivot, Grants.gov, NIH policies, and others.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
Passionate about working in an organization that values multiple points of view and promotes respectful relationships.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Requires strong interpersonal and written skills. Must demonstrate commitment to customer service and willingness to take on tasks as assigned.

Salary:

$70,000 - $80,000 per year.
