The Associate Director for Mission Engagement is a critical member of the Office of Mission Engagement and Church Affairs (OMECA). Through its work, OMECA cultivates the University's Catholic and Holy Cross mission and catalyzes Notre Dame's service to the Church. The Office coordinates an array of initiatives, both internal and external to the University, which extend Notre Dame's contributions to the Church and the world, including: the Tantur Ecumenical Institute, the Notre Dame - Newman Centre for Faith and Reason, the House of Brigid, the Sorin Seminar for Faculty, and the Joyce Seminar for University Administrators.
The Associate Director is responsible for deepening the faculty's and staff's understanding of and commitment to Notre Dame's Catholic and Holy Cross mission. In collaboration with the Vice President and the Executive Director, the Associate Director leads the Sorin Seminar for Faculty and the Joyce Seminar for University Administrators, collaborates with the faculty and staff chaplains, and develops and implements other faculty- and staff-oriented initiatives. Along with other colleagues in OMECA, the Associate Director annually coordinates the University's Report on Catholic Mission and staffs the Laetare Recommendation Committee. The Associate Director also supports the scholarly initiatives (e.g., conference planning) of the Senior Ecumenical Fellow of the Tantur Ecumenical Institute.
This position requires a high level of independent judgment, initiative and discretion; project management and analytical skills; the ability to communicate clearly on behalf of the Vice President in writing and in the creation of presentations; a keen understanding of Catholic higher education and the Catholic intellectual tradition. The Associate Director will routinely serve as a representative of the Office on a variety of matters, supporting key initiatives, developing communication with internal and external constituents, and building and maintaining University relationships. The Associate Director must possess a capacity to engage with and to build rapport with faculty and administrators from across the University.
Essential responsibilities include:
  • Deepen understanding of and commitment to the University's Catholic and Holy Cross mission through the Sorin Seminar for Faculty and the Joyce Seminar for University Administrators; develop and implement additional activities for Sorin Seminar alumni.
  • Develop and implement new initiatives focused on the sharing the Catholic mission of the University with University leaders, faculty, and staff.
  • Support the scholarly initiatives of the Senior Ecumenical Fellow of the Tantur Ecumenical Institute.
  • On behalf of OMECA, develop rapport with faculty from across the Colleges, Schools, and Institutes; become and remain conversant in the culture, major concerns, and scholarly endeavors of the faculty.
  • With other colleagues from OMECA, coordinate the annual creation of the Report on Catholic Mission for the Fellows and Trustees of the University.
  • Staff the Laetare Recommendation Committee and attend to other matters related to the Laetare Medal.
  • Support new faculty and new staff orientation and onboarding; collaborate with the faculty and staff chaplains.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Masters degree or Bachelors degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelors
Experience: 5 to 6 years
Knowledge: Understanding of the mission of Catholic higher education
Skills: Excellent communications and project management skills. Ability to represent the Vice President for Mission Engagement and Church Affairs to internal stakeholders.
