Brief Summary of Work for this Position | The Associate Director provides expertise and leadership for the Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History, one of five major functional divisions in the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Randall Library. The Center’s collections are composed of Government Information, Special Collections, and University Archives, and its goal is to connect the people and communities of Southeast North Carolina to the sources of their history and culture by collecting and digitizing materials, providing access to those materials, educating the campus and broader region about that history and culture, encouraging and engaging scholarship on the region, and supporting and partnering with regional cultural heritage groups. This position serves as a member of Randall Library’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the library and its services, spaces, and resources. This is a 12-month, renewable, non-tenure track special faculty position reporting to the Dean of Randall Library. Upon initial appointment, the Associate Director for Library Specialized Collections / Director of the Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History (CSENCAH) provides vision and strategic direction for a team of professional librarians, archivists, and staff in strengthening the discovery, visibility, accessibility, and impact of the Center’s distinctive archival collections and will play a critical leadership role in the growth of the collection and its engagement throughout the Southeast North Carolina community. Primary Function of Organizational Unit | Academic Affairs is the central division for implementing the academic mission of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Through effective academic policies, practices, and programs, it provides leadership for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and creative work as well as service to local, regional, and global communities. William Madison Randall Library supports the University’s mission through the provision of information resources, services and programs relevant to the needs of its students, faculty and staff. It also serves as a rich cultural resource for the surrounding community and the region. To accomplish this mission, the library provides (1) diverse collections of informational resources in multiple formats and specialized technologies to enable the creation of new knowledge; (2) efficient access to those informational resources and technologies; (3) assistance and instruction in identifying, evaluating and interpreting information; (4) a safe and comfortable facility which stimulates intellectual curiosity and reflective thinking; and (5) programs that connect scholars and interested individuals with information and expertise to inspire lifelong learning. The Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History acquires, manages and preserves a wide variety of both primary source and specialized materials within Randall Library within the divisions of University Archives, Special Collections and Government Information. The Center provides access to these materials for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and visiting scholars. The Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History also coordinates exhibits and public programs and also facilitates reference and instruction services using these materials. |
