The Associate Director for Finance and Planning is a senior administrative and financial management position reporting to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research's (OVPR) Director for Administration on matters related to the office's budget and matters related to research finance and risk management. This role is responsible for supporting and advancing the mission of NYU’s research enterprise through resource allocation and long-term planning.  This includes: financial and budgetary management of OVPR; developing and implementing short-and long-term fiscal strategic plans to meet the OVPR’s mission and priorities; b) creating financial models and systems for budgeting, forecasting resources and allocation, management reporting, metrics, and variance analysis to optimize fiscal and operational effectiveness; c) managing financial and accounting operations including operating budget; serve as liaison with the Vice Provost's leadership team and partner organizations (e.g., school-based senior administrators, et. al.) on fiscal matters to ensure coordination and prioritization of fiscal activities that are necessary to move the strategic plan forward in supporting the ongoing projects for the Vice Provost's agenda.



Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Public Administration, or related fields.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Public Administration, or related fields.
Required Experience:
6+ years Development and management of budgets in a sponsored research environment. Related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in financial and operations management. Experience managing information resources. 
Preferred Experience:
6+ years  Strategic, financial partner in the higher education industry with skills in the design of
comprehensive financial models and the effective stewardship of resources. Experience
collaborating with stakeholders across higher education institutions, including FOs, deans, department chairs,
and senior administrators. Experience supporting senior leadership with financial analysis, timely and accurate data to inform
business decisions, and processes to successfully implement new initiatives.

 

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Superior financial analysis skills required, including the ability to prepare detailed financial reports that include qualitative discussions of financial drivers, budgets and variances, and forward-looking implications. Necessary experience includes budget and/or other financial analysis, such as interpretation of financial statements. Expert-level computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required, including in-depth knowledge of spreadsheet packages. Knowledge of accounting principles essential


Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a well-developed knowledge of quantitative analysis capable of working with minimal oversight to solve a problem or meet a need. Ability to work through complex issues, elevating issues appropriately to directors and core administration team. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must be able to work with complex financial models and be meticulous in quantitative detail.
