Job Description

The College of Integrative sciences and Arts (CISA) is an interdisciplinary multi-campus college with an applied and experiential learning approach. As one of three liberal arts colleges at ASU, the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts offers foundational instruction in humanities, social and natural sciences, mathematics and professional fields to provide students across ASU with the knowledge and skills to comprehend and effectively engage the changing world of the 21stcentury locally, nationally and globally.  The Associate Director of Financial Management and Business Operations works closely and in collaboration with the Executive Director of Planning and Management and the Director for Fiscal and Business Operations to plan, organize and direct the financial and administrative operations of the college. This position will be based either on the ASU Polytechnic or Downtown Phoenix campuses.

Salary Range

$90,000 -$100,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Develops, maintains and administers operational and general business services for state, local, foundation and auxiliary accounts. 
  • Works collaboratively with college leadership to establishes fiscal guidelines to sustain a sound financial status. 
  • Oversees and participates in planning, developing and administering college budget.
  • Prepares or coordinates preparation of financial reports; analyzes and interprets statistics and financial data for predicting resource needs and developing long range plans. 
  • Aids in developing, maintaining and implementing college policies and procedures.
  • Interprets and applies pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by university or other governing agencies. 
  • Supervises, hires, trains and evaluates assigned staff. 
  • Works with employees to correct deficiencies and recommends and implements corrective action and discipline. 
  • Represents college interests on committees.
  • Establishes proper internal accounting controls and/or checks and balances to ensure compliance with university/auditing standards. 
  • In collaboration with Director, oversees all fiscal year-end accounting and budgeting activities and processes. 
  • In consultation with Executive Director and Director, manages and controls personal services budget, expenditures and revenues; reviews and authorizes purchase of supplies, services and equipment. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that salary planning (fiscal year roll/merit/pay increase) exercises balance to state/local personnel budgets. 
  • Coordinates budget planning and budget entry in Adaptive Planning financial system for state and local budgets for department. 
  • In coordination with Director, oversees internal and external financial audits and prepares audit documentation. 
  • Provides advice and information on college programs, financial and operation policies and activities. Coordinates or assumes other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, works on special projects for the Dean

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND seven (7) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Eleven (11) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and budgeting practices and principles; knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to budgeting and accounting practices.
  • Experience in budget preparation and forecasting.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking solutions to complex problems.
  • Experience in detailed reporting and analysis of compiled data from multiple sources.
  • Experience in change management skills
  • Experience working in a fast paced, dynamic environment

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%)
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%) Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • Receives regular managerial review of outcomes to ensure achievement of established objectives and goals.
