Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Associate Director that reports to the Senior Director of Operations and Services.
The Associate Director of Rutgers Newark, in conjunction with Campus Manager of RBHS Newark and with the Department of Utilities, coordinate and communicate functions performed by the Utilities Unit, i.e., repairs/replacements of high temperature hot water and chilled water systems, elevators and EMS. The duties of the Associate Director includes but not limited to the following;
- Works with the Department of Fire Safety on inspection and replacement of fire alarm and suppression systems.
- Keeps the Senior Director informed of work status at all times and keeps him apprised of the scheduled work by the Utilities Units and Fire Safety.
- Keeps everyone, including building occupants informed of scheduling of work, progress of work, impact of work on the respective buildings.
- Participates in the coordination of the work within the respective buildings and keeps the school units informed at all times.

Minimum Education and Experience

- Requires a bachelor’s degree, in an Engineering Discipline or a combination of education and years of experience in a managerial position in Facilities Operations.
- Leadership/management in a higher education or institutional setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- The individual must have a thorough understanding of utilities, fire alarm systems, elevators and control systems to effectively interact with Utilities and must be administratively knowledgeable of these trades to convey pertinent information on the status work performed by Utilities, Fire Safety and the Elevator inspection Unit.
- Must understand budgets, and maintain control of assigned departmental money.

Preferred Qualifications

- A minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in facilities

- Moderate physical activity indoors and outdoors is required in extreme heat and cold temperatures.
