Summary

The Associate Director for Experiential Learning develops and maintains experiential learning pathways that include hands-on student experiences in internships, service learning, study abroad, research, externships, job shadowing, leadership development. This position partners internally with faculty and staff across the university to create co-curricular maps as well as design and facilitate training and resources. This role is also responsible for managing service learning and the federal work-study community service program.

Essential Functions

Collaborate with faculty and administrators from each college and school to develop co-curricular, experiential learning pathways for each academic major.

  • Work closely with the Director for Career and Experiential Learning to design a highly tailored learning journey that guides each student through various options to complete experiences and milestones.

  • Assess and map experiential learning across the university, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.

  • Track and report student progress on the path utilizing virtual platforms.

  • Implement a co-curricular transcript tool as a dynamic and real-time record of the student experience that showcases competencies, achievements, and milestones.

  • Partner with Associate Director for Career and Strategic Partnerships, Director for Ministry and Outreach, and Director for Student Life and Parent Engagement to embed programs and partnerships into the experiential learning process. 

Partner with faculty and community partners to design and manage the university’s Service-Learning program

  • With support from the Graduate Assistant, meet with service-learning faculty to provide training and best practices on effectively integrating service-learning into the curriculum.

  • Establish annual service-learning initiatives and a calendar of service opportunities with key partnerships – via GivePulse platform.

  • Monitor opportunities for service and make recommendations for community partners and service sites to faculty and students, including experiential learning orientation and reflection activities.

  • Utilize GivePulse and Engage platforms to post, promote, and track service-learning hours and community impact.

  • Schedule and present in-class, pre-service workshops to students and facilitate post-service reflection activities.

  • Collect feedback and assess data for reporting and continuous improvement as well as assess student learning and community impact.

Oversee the university’s Federal Work-Study Community Service program in partnership with Human Resources.

  • With support from a Graduate Assistant, manage the hiring and training of all FWS Community Service students.

  • Ensure that Barry University is meeting or exceeding the minimum federal requirement for FWS Community Service placements.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with local community partner placement locations, through regular communication, positive interactions, and supervisor trainings.

  • Implement an assessment structure to assess the impact of the program on student development. 

Provide supervision and direction for the study abroad office:

  • Hire, train, and supervise one part-time Study Abroad Coordinator

  • Oversee the ongoing sustainability of the Study Abroad office within Experiential Learning.

  • Contribute toward department goals, budget proposals, reports, and assessment plans.

  • Facilitate staff meetings and scheduling, ensuring representation on key university committees, events, and collaborative initiatives.

Provide supervision and direction for staff and unit operations:

  • Hire, train, and supervise two Graduate Assistants and Federal Work Study students.

  • Provide professional development, monitor employee performance, and provide feedback following HR policies and procedures.

  • Contribute toward department goals, budget proposals, reports, and assessment plans.

  • Facilitate staff meetings and scheduling, ensuring representation on key university committees, events, and collaborative initiatives.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Master's degree in any discipline is required.

  • 3-5 years of related experience is required.

  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze qualitative information to identify trends and themes

  • Advanced experience using MS Office Suite, Corq, and SharePoint.

  • Excellent editing and formatting skills

  • Excellent communications skills verbal and written.
