JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   The Associate Director- Campus Recreation is the lead administrator Campus Recreation, the Fitness Center, Doc’s Field, and all related facilities. This position plans, implements, and evaluates departmental programs, policies and procedures to include daily Fitness Center, facility scheduling, Intramural Sports, Fitness and Wellness, Nutrition, Aquatics and Outdoor Recreation, Instructional Programs, Informal Recreation, and Special Events and programs. In addition, this position directs and manages associated facilities and services for participants consisting of faculty, staff, students, residents, visiting students, retirees and alumni, visiting administrators and dignitaries as well as others who may be permitted to become members of the Fitness Center. This is an on-campus position primarily located in UT Health Science Center recreation facilities. This position may include frequent nights and weekends and may cover other positions in UTHSC Campus Recreation according to departmental needs.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Supervises daily operations of Campus Recreation, the Fitness Center, and Doc's Field; manages employees on duty, resolves conflicts and inspects for maintenance and safety issues.

2.      Reviews, develops, and implements operating procedures pertaining to risk management related to Campus Recreation.

3.      Develops guidelines for use of the facilities; provides training and technical assistance to staff.

4.      Prepares budgets, reports, and usage statistics.

5.      Evaluates financial reports for Fitness Center, Intramural Sports and Aquatics/Outdoor recreation programs expense and income accounts; approves payroll.

6.      Maintains upkeep, replacement, and general repair of recreation equipment, including resistance training, sound, aquatics, outdoor recreation equipment and Intramural equipment; maintains the inventory of equipment and supplies.

7.      Maintains close contact with the Physical Plant and the Planning Office for necessary repairs and maintenance to Fitness Center Facilities and Doc’s Field Sports complex.

8.      Collaborates with other University departments for programs and events for students, faculty, staff, and incoming students during new student orientations and supports the Student Government Association Executive Council.

9.      Oversees the scheduling of all facilities and negotiates facility reservations for UTHSC students, faculty, and staff. 

10.  Plans, markets, and administers the Outdoor Recreation program and Outdoor Recreation equipment rental; instructs and schedules other instructors for outdoor recreation classes; prepares for use of sports fields for events and sports.

11.  Oversees the operations and maintenance of Innosoft Fusion software which manages fitness center memberships, access/security, equipment rentals, program enrollment, business transactions, online purchases, etc. 

12.  Perform other duties as required.  

 



Qualifications

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree. (Master’s Degree preferred) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) 

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of experience organizing, planning and implementing wellness, fitness, outdoor recreation, aquatics, intramural sports and recreational sports as well as wellness and special events in a college or university setting; OR Master’s Degree and one (4) year of experience. CPR/AED and First Aid Certification and Certified Pool Operator or willing to complete within three months.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

·         Knowledge of programming for students, faculty, staff, faculty use, activities, sports and fitness.

·         Knowledge of management and operation of recreation facilities and equipment.

·         Knowledge of campus recreation software programs.

·         Ability to design and market fitness center and campus recreation programs.

·         Ability to research fitness equipment, materials, and website knowledge.

·         Good written and oral communication skills.

·         Recreational and fitness knowledge. 

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may frequently be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
