Job Description

Under the general direction of the Chief Athletics Compliance Office and direct supervision of the Senior Director of Athletics Compliance, participates in the evaluation, development, maintenance, and administration of athletics compliance policies and processes; through daily oversight of monitoring activities. Participates in rules education to ensure goals and objectives are met with strict adherence to NCAA, Pac-12 Conference, and Arizona State University rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of Sun Devil Athletics (SDA) and the Arizona Board of Regents.

Essential Duties

Maintain official team rosters and assist with clearing student-athletes for practice and competition. Assist with initial and continuing eligibility evaluations. Participates in the evaluation, development, maintenance, and administration of policies and processes designed to maintain institutional control within SDA. Assist the Senior Director in the delegation and supervision of policy and process creation and modification at the coordinator level to ensure effectiveness of policies and processes consistent with all applicable rules and regulations. Work in connection with the Senior Director to monitor daily activities; assists in the oversight of the Coordinators process monitoring and auditing to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies. Manages the content of the Sun Devil Compliance website by reviewing it and providing updates so that it is current and accurate. Evaluate complimentary ticket and pass list information; assists with complimentary ticket oversight and other assigned duties at athletics events to address any compliance issues and prevent NCAA rules violations. Assist the Senior Director in the preparation of various NCAA periodic and ad hoc reports; collects a variety of data from various resources as needed/appropriate based on reporting. Research and provide rules interpretations to those making inquiries as assigned within the compliance department. Conduct periodic audits of coach and student-athlete activities to review current processes to determine that rules/processes prevent violations; identify potential rule violations and prepares recommendations for new and/or modification of processes. Assist the Senior Director in the drafting and submission of eligibility and other waivers and secondary violations to the NCAA for their review and determination as applicable. Participate in the education of SDA and other athletics stakeholders regarding NCAA, Pac-12, and University rules, regulations, and policies to prevent violations of rules, regulations, and policies. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; and establishing professional networks.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field and four years experience in athletics compliance at the college/university level one (1) year of which includes experience drafting and implementing policies and processes relating to the legislation governing intercollegiate athletics; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been obtained.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree or J.D. from an ABA accredited law school with relevant experience in similar work.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Regularly travels locally, regionally, and nationally requiring operation of a motor vehicle.


Department Statement

The Office of Athletics Compliance reports to the President, through the Senior Vice President and General Counsel. This position reports to the Executive Director of Athletics Compliance through a Director of Athletics Compliance. The Athletics Compliance Office is located in the Carson Student-Athlete Center on the Tempe campus.
