Job Summary
Eastern Washington University seeks applications for an Associate Director of Assessment, in the office of Institutional Effectiveness.

Position Summary

We seek an experienced and dynamic leader who has a comprehensive understanding of university education for the 21st century. The Associate Director is responsible for planning and managing multi-faceted projects, related to the assessment of student learning and achievement. The position performs highly complex tasks related to planning, determining organizational needs, collaborating with and communicating with campus constituencies, making recommendations and providing progress reports, and following through on project implementation.
This is a 12-month administrative position reporting to the Executive Director for Institutional Effectiveness.
The position requires a high standard of personal and professional ethics, and the ability to communicate and work effectively with all constituent groups internal and external to the institution, and in a collective bargaining and shared governance environment.

Conditions of Employment

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in education, educational research, research & evaluation, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with college/university/department/program assessment
  • Demonstrated experience with computer-based quantitative research methods, qualitative research methods, and data analysis.
  • Strong computer, quantitative, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects.
  • Knowledge of and experience with student record databases
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience in promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in education, educational research, research & evaluation, or related field.

    Assessment: Coordinate and support a comprehensive institutional assessment program to plan, evaluate, and improve programs and initiatives at Eastern Washington University.
  • Coordinate a systematic, comprehensive assessment of learning outcomes for the University’s academic programs;
  • Coordinate assessment processes and programs focusing on the first-year experience, general education, and other campus-wide measures of institutional effectiveness;
  • Work collaboratively with academic and non-academic units to develop and implement assessment tools and plans;
  • Ensures collection and analysis of assessment data for all programs and services;
  • Supervise the technical aspects of assessment, including the design of databases, data collection, and analysis of data;
  • Supervise the administration of various standardized national assessment instruments and the preparation of internal and external reports;
  • Coordinate planning processes that are related to assessment and planning outcomes;
  • Develop project plans, guidelines, forms and reports for managing accreditation activities;
  • Advocate for assessment as a means of improving student learning and institutional effectiveness;
  • Develop annual reports to assist academic departments with analyzing their data;
  • Identify and clarify core themes of the university, college and/or programs, so that they reflect and encompass the university’s mission, vision, values and goals for incorporation into accreditation reports
  • Facilitate and support engagement by the university, college and program leadership in regular, systematic participatory, self-reflective, and evidence-based assessment of its accomplishments and challenges
  • Analyze data and produce reports, on progress and outcomes for university administration and college leadership, which provide evidence of strengths and challenges within and across programs.
  • Establish standards for effective, regular, and comprehensive systems of assessment and documentation of student achievement, so that students who complete its educational courses, programs, and degrees (wherever offered and however delivered) achieve identified course, program, and degree learning outcomes
  • Assist the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and other university Administrators with ensuring that the national assessment standards are met.

    • Based on meaningful institutionally identified indicators of achievement;
    • Used for improvement by forming planning, decision making and allocation of resources and capacity; and
    • Made available to appropriate constituencies in a timely manner
