Associate Director, Affinity Programs & Annual Giving

The Associate Director, Affinity Programs & Annual Giving is responsible for working closely with numerous constituencies to enhance Babson’s relationship with its 45,000+ alumni through an integrated affinity strategy that relies heavily on volunteer recruitment and management as well as cross-campus collaborations. Specifically responsible for managing select affinity groups in support of engagement and giving goals and fostering the success of affinity groups by cultivating meaningful relationships between the College, current students, alumni who are connected to the College through their past affinities to scholars programs, student organizations, and alumni volunteers through personal contact, communication and the creation of engaging programs, events, and initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Contribute to and execute departmental strategy for sustaining, growing, and building affinity groups in collaboration with Affinity Programs & Annual Giving team. Develop metrics to track and measure effectiveness of affinity engagement and giving efforts.
  • Manage multiple scholars/scholarship programs, Glavin Office and Service & Justice affinities of strategic importance to the College, including but not limited to Diversity Leadership Scholars, Glavin Global Fellows, Global Scholars, Honors Program, Natalie Taylor Scholars, Posse Scholars, and Weissman Scholars.  Responsible for collaborating with campus partners and volunteers, creating events and passive programming, drafting communications associated with these affinities, and guiding and supporting crowdfunding or other fundraising efforts specific to each group.  Identify and cultivate companies and manage industry-specific groups of strategic importance to the College in support of our corporate and career affinity strategy. Recruit and manage volunteers, plan and host opportunities that foster alumni-alumni connections, professional development, and networking and promote philanthropic support to the College.
  • Contribute to and execute departmental strategy for sustaining, growing, and building affinity groups in collaboration with Affinity Programs & Annual Giving team. Develop metrics to track and measure effectiveness of affinity engagement and giving efforts.
  • Partner with the Sorenson Center for the Arts to create engagement opportunities and support fundraising efforts of BabsonArts affinities. 
  • Work closely with campus departments, alumni, and students to develop and strengthen affinity groups and to connect and ensure collaboration between affinity groups and on-campus resources. 
  • Manage tracking of affinity affiliations to ensure outreach lists for email invitations and solicitations are accurate.
  • Coordinate select affinity milestone celebrations in collaboration with volunteers and campus partners. Work with Advancement Events to manage event logistics.
  • Lead select affinity-based fundraising campaigns, including volunteer buy-in, creation and management of crowdfunding pages, and messaging for appeals. Collaborate with the Advancement Marketing team to execute marketing communications plan. Support Advancement colleagues to promote their class or affinity-based fundraising initiatives.
  • Curate and maintain a portfolio of volunteers for cultivation and solicitation in support of Advancement’s annual participation goals. 
  • Direct affinity volunteers to engage fellow alumni as both donors and ambassadors in support of the Babson’s annual signature fundraising campaigns including: Make Your Mark, Barefoot Athletics Challenge, Days of Giving, and Calendar and Fiscal Year End campaigns.
  • Create an active social media presence and a robust plan in partnership with the Advancement Marketing team to promote affinity events and giving as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Centers for Career Development to provide career resources for alumni and to promote offerings.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to create and implement opportunities for alumni to engage in lifelong learning programs.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Alumni Strategic Projects & Operations to manage select shared interest group programming and select affinity milestone events during Back to Babson.
  • Collaborate with the Affinity Programs & Annual Giving team and Stewardship to develop a robust plan to ensure affinity-based volunteers are cultivated and stewarded.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers; provide for volunteer training needs on and off campus.
  • Coordinate and contribute to post-event communications and reporting. 
  • Attend and contribute to signature alumni engagement activities, including but not limited to Back to Babson and select recognition events.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Bachelor’s Degree

A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in volunteer management, event coordination, fundraising, and/or alumni relations.

Must have outstanding, interpersonal, time management, attention to detail, organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently and with interruptions; as well as collaboratively across multiple constituencies

Must have strong customer service orientation.

Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other database or CRM systems

Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; work independently to solve problems; look for opportunities to take on responsibility; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.

Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Must be able to handle sensitive material confidentially.

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Evening and weekend work required

Requires the ability to travel both domestically and internationally

Requires work onsite a minimum of 3 days a week (Monday and a minimum of 2 other days; additional requirements based on outlined department policy); the on-campus requirement is subject to modification based on organizational need. 

Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License for one year; must maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College’s insurer’s criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College’s vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee’s driving record based on the College insurer’s criteria; and safety training as required by management.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Fluency in multiple languages preferred
  • Prior experience with student organizations preferred
