Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students, the Associate Dean for Health and Wellness Services provides administrative vision, leadership, supervision, strategic planning, and assessment for functional areas including but not limited to the Student Health Center, Student Counseling Center, Student Wellness Center, and University Recreation. The Associate Dean is responsible for the implementation of a holistic and integrated wellness model that promotes physical, emotional, and psychological health resulting in student retention, well-being, and quality of life. The Associate Dean is responsible for the UTD Behavior Assessment and Intervention Team (BAIT), temporary accommodations for students, and the Student Emergency Fund. The associate dean has shared duties for on-call response overnight and on weekends.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Health Education, Health Promotion, or related field. Five to seven years with in progressive administrative experience in Higher Education. Three to five years of supervisory experience in High Education environment.
Preferred Education and Experience
Doctoral Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Health Education, Health Promotion, or a related field. Experience with managing students of concern.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision to directors of the Student Wellness Center, Student Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and University Recreation.
  • Responsible for the Behavior Assessment and Intervention Team (BAIT) including serving as a case manager and overseeing the case management team.
  • Crisis management as it pertains to daily occurrences and also on a larger scale as indicated in business continuity plans for all reporting departments. Shares on-call responsibilities with the Dean of Students overnight and on weekends.
  • Oversees determination of needs and awarding of temporary accommodations for students.
  • Manages the Student Emergency Fund; works in conjunction with Financial Aid to grant aid; works with the Development office to raise money for the fund.
  • As a member of the dean of students suite and direct report team, assist with various student needs and resolve student complaints.
  • Development of departmental strategic plans, goals, and objectives.
  • Collaborate with a population of students, faculty, and staff, using excellent communication and leadership skills; Serves on Student Affairs and University committees and represents UT Dallas at state, regional, and national professional meetings; performs other duties as assigned.
  • Forecasts budget needs and manages program budgets and reconciliation processes; compiles annual and other periodic reports.
  • Identifies desired student learning outcomes, coordinates and reports on assessment activities to measure achievement of outcomes; compiles annual and other periodic reports.
  • Maintains a current understanding of theories, principles, and practices associated with higher education health, wellness, recreational, and counseling services and those of students with disabilities.
  • Maintains working knowledge of legal framework applicable to federal and state laws and campus and UT System policies relating to student health insurance, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) laws.

Internal candidates may be given preference.
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
