The College of Science (COS) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC), a growing Hispanic Serving Institution with R2 status, seeks an exceptional researcher and scholar for the Associate Dean of Research and Innovation position to begin spring 2024. This is a faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure on arrival pending approval from the Texas A&M System Board of Regents. Rank will be determined upon review of qualifications. As a Dean’s Executive Staff member, the Associate Dean will provide leadership for the college to advance its research missions and integrate them within the university’s larger goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The position of Associate Dean of Research and Innovation is a faculty administrative appointment with research expectations. The person who holds this position will be an experienced researcher with a demonstrated track record of successful competitive federal funding and a history of interdisciplinary collaboration, peer mentorship, innovation, and leadership.
The Associate Dean of Research and Innovation will:
Advance the college’s research mission to enhance further local, state, national, and international prominence.
Incorporate team science to facilitate research activity in the college.
Provide and accelerate mentorship and consultation for faculty regarding the preparation of research proposals (identification of potential funding, conceptualization, design, and finances for grant proposals) and ongoing grant-related research activities.
Create mechanisms and coordinate with research officials from other colleges to facilitate interdisciplinary and cross-college research activities to form successful collaborative research groups.
Encourage faculty to pursue diverse external funding sources (public and private opportunities at the local, state, and federal levels).
Expand and promote graduate and undergraduate research.
Build sustainable partnerships with private and public organizations and foster community engagement.
Promote the integration of research activities into community practices to contribute to the public good through collaboration between faculty, students, staff, and community partners.
Act as liaison between the college and the university Office of Research & Innovation and the TAMU-CC Foundation.
Implement relevant, constructive policies and practices on research personnel, safety and compliance, IRB, IACUC, and the approval of new research proposals.
Conduct or direct specific projects as assigned by the Dean.
Serve on college and university committees and advance the research enterprise of COS at TAMU-CC.
Support the success of students, faculty, and staff at all levels at COS.
Maintain an active research program.
COS offers many degrees across three departments: Life Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physical and Environmental Sciences. The COS faculty and staff bridge academics and research through interdisciplinary collaborations in classrooms, laboratories, and the field to create a more sustainable world. With approximately 1,650 students, including 1,480 undergraduate and 165 graduate students, COS consists of 67 full-time faculty (56 tenured/tenure-line and 11 professional-track faculty) and 45 staff members (including postdocs and research staff) dedicated to excellence in both teaching and research. The college's FY22 research funding was nearly $9 million.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a terminal degree in a discipline within the College of Science, from an accredited university. The candidate must also have:
Academic credentials commensurate with appointment to associate or full professor rank with tenure.
Supervision, leadership, and administrative experience in a senior-level administrative setting.
Professorial excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills; and
Continuous external funding from federal or national foundation sources over the last ten years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in designing and leading new initiatives or programs to advance the mission of an academic department or college;
Demonstrated ability to prioritize documents, time, and commitments;
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative initiatives that encourage COS members at all ranks to engage in seeking external funding;
Willingness to establish and host research-related workshops for faculty and students in the college; and
Willingness to mentor faculty on their scholarship and research trajectories.
