Job Summary
The Associate Dean will provide leadership, vision, administration, coordination, and budgetary/financial tracking of diversity and inclusion initiatives, working closely with leadership across the School, including but not limited to Deputy Deans, Dean of Students, Community Partnerships, and Impact, Development and Alumni Relations, Human Resources, and Marketing and Communications to coordinate support for staff, faculty, students, and alumni, as well as collaborate with key partners across the university and externally. The Associate Dean will lead and inspire staff at various stages of professional experiences and development, holding responsibility for creating learning opportunities and related training.
Responsibilities
Leadership of the Crown Family School’s Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives – 40%
Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, providing guidance to the team on diversity and inclusion.
Keeps abreast of the cultural climate and tone in regard to diversity and inclusion and responds to 'teachable moments', cultivating dialogue to deepen understanding of diversity.
Serve as a representative for diversity and inclusion on various school and university-wide committees.
Organize and convene the Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity (IE&D) Committee, composed of students, staff, faculty, and an alumni representative. The committee is advisory to the Dean.
Provide diversity and inclusion training for students, staff, and faculty.
Oversee the diversity and inclusion content for the Crown Family School website.
Strategy – 35%
Leads the development and implementation of a strategic Diversity and Inclusion Roadmap and creates initiatives to support the roadmap plan, including collecting information on, studying and assessing, and summarizing Crown’s diversity and inclusion current efforts and progress and defining a clear future direction.
Develop key metrics that capture D&I performance, track, and report the measures, and use data to drive continuous improvement.
Help develop effective IE&D communication strategies, web and interactive media, and marketing and informational materials for outreach and community building. Ensure that key messages, with respect to diversity initiatives, are appropriately positioned and integrated, and specific needs of diverse audiences are considered and met.
Program Development – 20%
Develop and facilitate Diversity and Inclusion related programs for staff, students, and faculty.
Support the Alumni Relations and Development Office of the Crown Family School Alumni Board in planning and implementing D&I-related programs.
Present at admissions events related to diversity and inclusion.
Develop new student orientation programming in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office and the office of the Deputy Dean for Curriculum.
Develop programming to provide greater support to our international students.
Other duties as assigned – 5%
Develops and administers program budgets and recommends or makes budgetary recommendations.
Plans and develops program objectives and/or content. Researches and identifies trends and needs and establishes program directions accordingly.
Performs other related work as needed.

Master’s degree in student affairs, social work, or other related fields strongly preferred.
Experience:
Experience in a related field.
Understanding of and experience with institutional diversity. Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with a diverse group of constituents.
Experience with diversity programming and initiatives.
Experience working with international students strongly preferred.
Experience with student organizations and event planning is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with higher education environment and knowledge of the University of Chicago’s unique culture strongly preferred.
Experience managing staff and operating budgets.
Experience in successfully providing direction, setting priorities, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing initiatives for change.
Excellent project management, analytical and organizational skills.
