Job Description:
Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/Associate Professor, Full Professor, or Professor of Practice. This position plays a significant role on the iSchool leadership team, working with the Dean, Associate Dean of Research, Associate Dean of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, and senior staff to provide academic leadership for the iSchool.
The compensation range is as follows:

  • Professor - $136,000 - $185,000
  • Associate Professor - $120,000 - $150,000
  • Professor of Practice - $76,000-$135,000

  • The next Associate Dean for Academic Affairs must have the integrity, perseverance, and vision required to assist the Dean and the leadership team to address the vital issues facing the iSchool while continuing to support the unique strengths and culture that create an exceptional learning environment. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs should be an active and visible leader, who will oversee the school's academic programs while promoting high expectations and accountability across the iSchool.
    Qualifications:
    The iSchool is seeking a dynamic leader who brings passion and an understanding of the disciplines and activities that will fuel the iSchools success and visibility in a large, complex academic environment.
    Candidates must have earned a terminal degree in an academic discipline that fits within the iSchool and a record of distinction in research or industry and creative activity, teaching, and service that merits a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, Full Professor, or Professor of Practice.
    Candidates should have exceptionally strong and timely communication skills, analytical and leadership skills, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. Ideal candidates will also have experience providing strategic leadership for academic programs, establishing and maintaining robust academic procedures and processes, and overseeing academic programs.
    Job Specific Qualifications:
    Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong interest and ability in teaching in our Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree programs.
    Responsibilities:
    Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/Associate Professor, Full Professor or Professor of Practice is responsible for leading and collaborating with faculty leadership in developing, articulating, and carrying out the academic vision for the iSchool and each of the iSchools undergraduate and graduate programs. This includes oversight of curriculum, accreditation, and assessment of academic programs (e.g., ALA, Middle States Commission on Higher Education) and internal program reviews.
    Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/Associate Professor, Full Professor or Professor of Practice is responsible for addressing students needs such as grade appeals and other pertinent issues while also overseeing summer and online course offerings.
    Additionally, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/Associate Professor, Full Professor or Professor of Practice collaborates with the Dean on part-time faculty searches and hires; academic policies and procedures; and other special projects. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/Associate Professor, Full Professor or Professor of Practice also serves as a liaison with other academic deans across campus and represents the College on the University-wide Senior Associate Deans Council.
