Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Operations is the chief officer for administration at the Graduate School of Social Work, serving on the Dean’s senior leadership team and as a strategic partner to the Dean. The Associate Dean directs all financial and non-academic operations of the school in support of the school’s mission and ensures operational efficiency and effectiveness. Key responsibilities focus on the school’s financial management, larger market positioning, service to internal stakeholders, and engagement of external stakeholders. The Graduate School of Social Work has an annual budget over $50 million, serves over 1,300 master’s and doctoral students, and employs over 50 full-time faculty, 100 staff members, and 250 adjunct faculty.

The Associate Dean reports to the Dean and oversees the staff leads for Budget and Planning, Business Operations, Communications and Marketing, Community Engagement, Enrollment and Financial Aid, and Student Services, and serves as internal liaison for the Information Technology manager. The Associate Dean also works closely with all the school’s associate and assistant deans and partners with directors of the school’s five research institutes and centers. A key requirement of this position is to promote teamwork and collaboration across all offices and departments within the school. As such, exceptional communication skills, a positive approach to problem solving, data-driven decision-making, and exacting customer service standards are essential.

Essential Functions

  • Operational Oversight and Staff Lead Supervision
  • Oversee financial planning, reporting, and compliance for school’s $50M+ annual budget
  • Oversee business operations, including hiring and human resources management in a large organization, including partnering with central administration’s Human Resources and Inclusive Community office
  • Oversee admissions and enrollment, ensuring alignment with financial goals, accomplishment of enrollment goals, and administration of financial aid
  • Oversee internal and external communications, recruitment, and marketing in support of enrollment goals and national school reputation
  • Oversee internal and external community engagement for community building, strategic community partnerships, and ongoing continuing education offerings
  • Oversee non-academic student service operations (e.g., student engagement, registrar, professional advising, career services)
  • Ensure integration, collaboration, and teamwork across staff leads and units within the school
  • Strategic Leadership and Partnership
  • Collaboratively resolve issues as they arise related to the operations of the school
  • Strategically partner on development and/or implementation of the school’s strategic plan
  • Support staff development and opportunities for professional growth
  • Represent the Dean as requested at meetings and events
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, business, or higher education administration, or equivalent education or professional experience
  • 10 years’ experience in business or administration management, including leading teams through change
  • Supervisory experience, including hiring personnel
  • Budget and financial management experience
  • Experience leading complex organizational and personnel teams, and fostering collaboration across teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in higher education administration
  • Knowledge of graduate education trends and opportunities
  • Oversight of $10M+ budget

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • This is an on-campus role with some remote work flexibility.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to be in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 16.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $150,000-$175,000

The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
