Job Summary
The College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence and Faculty Affairs. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Associate Dean of Inclusive Excellence and Faculty Affairs (ADIEFA) is a senior administrative leadership team member in the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) with the Dean and four other Associate Deans. Together, they are responsible for executive functions, including policy development and strategic planning, and, with the unit administrators, for managing, administering, and coordinating the operations of the CAS, the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Agriculture and Natural Resources program of the OSU Extension Service. With other administrative team members, the ADIEFA has responsibilities relating to the success of all CAS faculty, personnel management, programs, and budget management, promoting communication and cooperation, and otherwise advancing the integration of the CAS’s education, extension, and research programs.
The ADIEFA oversees program management, personnel support (including career advancement guidance), promoting communication and cooperation, and the integration of the CAS’s education, extension, and research programs. Additionally, the ADIEFA provides creative leadership in overseeing, administering, and supporting the CAS Strategic Action Plan for Inclusive Excellence (SPIE). Responsibilities include facilitating, evaluating, and communicating the development and growth of cultural competencies across interpersonal, institutional, structural, and global levels. The ADIEFA oversees hiring, adherence to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices, professional development, promotion and tenure, and awards for the CAS. The ADIEFA will conduct this work in concert and collaboration with CAS faculty, staff, students, stakeholders, and OSU’s Office of Institutional Diversity.
The CAS’ teaching, research, and Extension programs cover a broad spectrum of life and environmental sciences and physical, mathematical, and statistical sciences. Key Responsibilities
Actions described below will be overseen/developed in collaboration with the Dean, other CAS Associate Deans, Chairs, Heads, and/or appropriate college committees.
35% The Leadership of CAS Inclusive Excellence Efforts
Provides leadership for the CAS faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders to embed, integrate, and advance efforts for Inclusive Excellence across all aspects of CAS, including the following aspects:
  • Lead the development and growth of cultural competencies across interpersonal, institutional, structural, and global levels for students, faculty, and staff within CAS.
  • Serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff on equity related matters.
  • Provide leadership to meet or exceed the CAS’s expectations for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Oversee, administer, and support the CAS Strategic Action Plan for Inclusive Excellence (SPIE)
  • Co-lead the CAS Climate, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (CEDI) task force.
  • Work with the CEDI task force on strategies to promote faculty diversification.
  • Coordinate committees and councils promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) within CAS.
  • Collaborate with JEDI groups in other colleges, institutes, and centers of Oregon State University to promote inclusive excellence.
  • Serve as a liaison to the advisors of student clubs such as Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), and Students for Cultivating Change.
  • Create consistent opportunities for the CAS community members to engage with and provide feedback on the CAS SPIE throughout the academic year.
  • Ensure compliance with National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Civil Rights Program within CAS.
  • Serve as advisor to the Deans’ Office on strategies and approaches that will improve opportunities and outcomes for underrepresented members of the CAS.
  • Monitor current JEDI efforts to identify key gaps and barriers that hinder progress, emerging needs and opportunities for growth, and successes or best practices that could be replicated and/or deserve recognition.
  • Collate and share resources related to strengthening Inclusive Excellence within the CAS.
  • Seek and support funding to grow the CAS JEDI priorities.
  • Support the CAS on items, ideas, and incidents that require or would benefit from JEDI leadership.
  • Collaborate with the CAS Academic Programs Office (APO) on matters of student inclusivity, such as recruitment and retention.

35% The Leadership of CAS Faculty Hiring and Career Advancement
Provides leadership for faculty hiring, onboarding, and career advancement of the CAS in alignment with CAS SPIE, overseeing the following aspects:
  • Provide oversight of faculty searches, hiring, and onboarding for CAS tenure-track and Professor of Practice searches, as well as Extension outreach coordinators where appropriate.
  • Support the Dean during unit head searches, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Provide leadership for faculty hiring to meet or exceed the CAS’s expectations for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Coordinate with the office of the OSU Search Advocate Program to ensure the CAS faculty are trained to run inclusive searches.
  • Develop and deliver an annual CAS faculty professional development program that increases faculty knowledge and skill development for addressing the CAS mission areas.
  • Coordinate leadership training opportunities.
  • Coordinate selection of faculty appointed to named professorships.
  • Oversee and develop faculty mentoring relationships within CAS units.
  • Maintain up-to-date CAS faculty hiring and staffing manual, CAS Promotion and Tenure guidelines, criteria for named professorships, exit interview policy, policy and procedures on professional development, policy and procedures on academic faculty annual performance evaluation, and policy and procedures on fixed-term professorial faculty positions and dossier CV templates.
  • Oversee guidelines on teaching loads and peer teaching reviews.
  • Assist in faculty relations (e.g., grievances, disagreements, etc.). This may require driving to one of the 11 branch experiment stations located at 14 facilities across the state of Oregon.
  • Oversee faculty union engagement.
  • Coordinate with OSU Office of Faculty Affairs, Office of University Human Resources, and other offices and key collaborators on faculty relations.
  • Review and approve requests for summer salary for 9-month faculty, waiver of search, off-cycle salary raise, courtesy faculty appointments, sabbatical leave, academic-wage appointment, and retirement of tenured faculty.
  • Work with unit leaders on faculty retention.
  • Oversee CAS P&T Committee, P&T process, and mid-tenure review.
  • Conduct annual P&T training for department heads, unit P&T committees and faculty.
  • Oversee CAS Faculty and Staff Awards Program.
  • Solicit, encourage, and facilitate nominations for university and national awards.

20% ADIEFA College Administration
Works collaboratively as a member of the CAS leadership team to develop and implement strategic advantages, SPIE, priority staffing, and promotion and tenure. Develops and maintains policies and procedures for administering education, extension, and research programs. Within the established policies and procedures framework, makes timely decisions that implement the philosophy, policy plans, and overall resource allocation established by the CAS. Shares responsibility with the administrative team for integrating programs across a network of branch experiment stations and academic units to deliver the CAS’ and Extension missions.
10% ADIEFA Service
Provide service to the CAS and University through committee service and leadership as appropriate and requested by CAS and University Administration. Serves on university, state, regional, and national advisory committees appropriate to position responsibilities and to participate in professional organization activities.
Duties require driving to visit college faculty and stakeholders around the state.
What You Will Need
Ph.D. in agriculture, education, natural resources, life sciences, social sciences, social justice, or an area related to the CAS.
Significant record of scholarly achievement that merits appointment as tenured full professor at Oregon State University.
Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse faculty, students, staff, and stakeholders.
A successful track record in leading program implementation, strategic planning, and/or managing across multiple important priorities.
Demonstrated experience in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work with a record of accomplishment and positive impact.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with and unify broad audiences with diverse opinions.
Excellent professional and interpersonal communication skills.
A record of outstanding scholarship and success in external grantsmanship.
Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and university groups.
Experience and success in displaying tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility in interactions and initiatives involving confidential or sensitive information.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Experience working within the realm of diversity, equity, and inclusion across diverse stakeholder groups in Oregon.
A record of scholarly work in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
A record of professional experience in agriculture, natural resources, or related areas that provides a basis for understanding CAS’s broad work.
Demonstrated broad understanding of the CAS’ Land Grant mission and teaching, research, and Extension areas (agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and the environment) and related areas of science, and an experience-based appreciation for their relevance, importance, and application in real-world settings.
Demonstrated understanding of varied needs to support highly diverse teaching, research, and Extension programs and faculty in CAS.
Demonstrated experience in gaining research or gift support for programs.
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Evidence of administrative and managerial success in university environments.
Experience with annual faculty and unit reviews.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This position requires some travel by car across the state of Oregon to visit College faculty and stakeholders, often requiring an overnight stay. Other official business travel as appropriate.
