Responsibilities:
 

The Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business at Belmont University is seeking applications for an Associate Dean beginning Spring/Summer 2024.   
The Associate Dean of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business (CEMB) reports to the Dean of the College and is charged with developing and implementing innovative programs, opportunities, and curriculum for CEMB and its faculty, students, and prospective students. The Associate Dean will also provide administrative oversight and support for the overall operations and functions associated with student flourishing, including student enrichment and internships, as well as program delivery, recruitment, enrollment, and retention. These roles and areas of responsibility are specifically described below.

Leadership Support:

  • Provides direct support to the CEMB Dean as needed.
  • Serves on the CEMB Academic Council as vice-chair of the Catalog & Curriculum Committee, with the specific charge of asking how new and existing courses will provide either fundamental, practical, or experiential knowledge and skills necessary to success in the industry the students will enter upon graduation and how they will adapt to continuous evolution.
  • In collaboration with the CEMB Dean and the Academic Council, participates in the development, implementation, maintenance, and/or adjustment of the College’s strategic plan and initiatives.
  • Management of CEMB staff related to student flourishing, with oversight reporting responsibility to the CEMB Dean, including student enrichment coordinator and internships coordinator.
  • Manages the annual Scholarship process and chairs the Scholarship Review Committee.
  • Provides administrative, governance, ceremonial, and symbolic leadership for the College and University, including participation in University sponsored recruitment events.
  • In collaboration with the CEMB Dean, Senior Associate Dean, and CEMB Budget Manager, coordinates use of Academic Enrichment Funds (AEF) and other budgetary funds for program delivery and recruiting/enrollment.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean on the assessment of courses, annual review of the department chairs, and 1/3/5 tenure track reviews.

Innovation:

  • Maintains a big-picture understanding of the subdisciplines within CEMB and actively engages faculty, staff, and administration in incorporating cutting edge technology, systems and processes, data, business models, experiential learning opportunities, etc. into curriculum, student experiences, and program structure.
  • Works with the Office of Educational Innovation and Online Learning, as well as the CEMB department chairs, faculty, and staff to identify learner needs and opportunities for credit and non-credit bearing certificates and other online degree programs.
  • Evaluates and facilitates the development and growth of CEMB current and future graduate programs.
    Seeks out and facilitates innovative approaches to recruiting and educating students and faculty.

Monitoring and Managing Program Delivery:

  • Works directly with the Student Enrichment Coordinator to strategically plan and manage for WELL Core events and other seminars.
  • Works directly with the Internships Coordinator to strategically manage and grow internship opportunities, focusing on both students and employees.
  • In collaboration with the Office of Career & Professional Development, coordinates co-curricular activities associated with student professionalism, career readiness, and placement activities.
  • Responsible for schedule oversight for rooms/meeting space for College events and outside requests.

Student Recruitment & Support :

  • Collaborates closely with University Admissions, Graduate Enrollment Specialist, and the CEMB Dean in the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of students to both undergraduate and graduate programs. This includes developing processes to optimize yields and participating in updating and planning undergraduate program marketing, website and adult program.
  • Assists as needed in faculty-wide recruiting activities such as student phone calls, emails, letters.
    Supervises and helps staff coordinate orientation activities for incoming students at both the College and University level.
  • Adjudicates and actively participates in the resolution of student and faculty issues/conflicts, including grade appeals and student academic and non-academic code of conduct violations.
  • Maintains student portal (online student handbook).
    Provides oversight, coordination and communication with student groups and organizations.
  • Works with the Student Enrichment Coordinator and CEMB Admissions to help oversee all CEMB newsletters and social media platforms.
  • Will work with CEMB Budget Manager to coordinates any student service activities associated with scholarships as required.

  • Teaching: 9-hour workload requirement teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses within the college.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external partners to cultivate support for the college's and university's mission and vision
