About the College:
With ten academic departments and five interdisciplinary programs, the College of Humanities is the most diverse college at Cal State Northridge. The College comprises disciplines that traditionally make up the study of Humanities — including Philosophy, English, and Modern & Classical Languages — while also housing the oldest and largest Chicana/o Studies Department in the United States and the only Central American and Transborder Studies Department in the country. Also, core to the College is our Liberal Studies Department that puts CSUN among the top three institutions in California in preparing K-6 educators for the classroom. Among the College's newest programs are minors in Middle Eastern & Islamic Studies, Queer Studies, and Civic & Community Engagement. In all, the College offers students over 40 major, minor and graduate degree paths, with many potential options for specialization.
The Position of Associate Dean, College of Humanities:

The Associate Dean assists the Dean in carrying out the mission of the college and serves as Acting Dean during the Dean's absence. Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean provides leadership for course scheduling; developing, processing and achieving University-level approval for curriculum proposals; assessment; assists departments and programs with program reviews including development and approval of self-studies, and implementing changes resulting from review; coordinates advisement services through the oversight of the college Student Services Center/EOP, in collaboration with the Director and staff; serves as coordinator of student grievance, grade appeal, and other disciplinary processes, meeting and consulting with students and faculty as needed. The Associate Dean assists the Dean with strategic planning and decision making for the college and, together with the Director of Finance and Operations and the Director of Development, assists in planning and other activities related to college advancement and resource issues. The Associate Dean coordinates college celebratory occasions including Commencement and award ceremonies; represents the Dean or College at on- and off-campus events as needed; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Earned doctorate from an accredited institution; tenured faculty member at the rank of associate professor or above; demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching; at least 3 years as department chair or equivalent, demonstrating successful academic administrative experience including budget and resource management, schedule and curriculum, and personnel decisions; demonstrated effectiveness as a member of an academic administrative team; computer skills relevant to academic administration and project management; excellent public relations and communication and writing skills; demonstrated ability to lead teams and committees with collaborative leadership style; and ability to provide leadership in responding to and enriching the increasing diversity and international profile of this institution.
