Job Summary 

The Drexel University School of Law seeks an experienced, motivated, and creative professional to fill the position of Associate Dean for Career Strategies. The Associate Dean will lead the School of Law’s Career Strategies Office and work closely with senior staff, faculty, and alumni of both the School of Law and the University to enhance professional opportunities for students and alumni. The Associate Dean will be responsible for strategic planning, marketing and employer outreach, program design and implementation, student and alumni advising, information management, development of policies and procedures, management of the office, and compilation, analysis, and reporting of data. This position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Law.

Essential Function

(1) Develop and cultivate professional relationships with legal employers in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, along with regional, national, international, and other local bar associations, in order to increase employment opportunities for law students.

(2) Advise students and alumni in career planning skills and job search strategies.

(3) Plan, coordinate, and present educational programs and events on law career development and professionalism.

(4) Manage on-campus and off-campus recruiting programs, job fairs, and events.

(5) Keep current and knowledgeable on employment market trends and develop strategies to enhance student employment opportunities.

(6) Oversee the education and overall applications processes for both federal and state judicial clerkships.

(7) Manage, produce, and disseminate multiple streams of information through various channels of communication, including website, print materials, emails, newsletter, and electronic databases.

(8) Gather and report at-graduation and 10-month employment data to internal and external constituencies.

(9) Develop effective working relationships with University and Law School faculty, staff, students, and alumni, along with other placement professionals throughout the United States. Participate on committees and in faculty and senior staff meetings.

(10) Assist with Admissions initiatives, where appropriate.

(11) Pursue leadership positions, speaking opportunities, and committee work in local, regional, and national bar associations, NALP, and affinity groups.

(12) Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Substantial experience in legal recruiting and/or law school administration.

Preferred Qualifications

High-level experience in a career planning office is preferred. Familiarity with and legal practice experience in the Philadelphia metropolitan legal community is also preferred.

Additional selection criteria include: excellent interpersonal, business development, administrative, leadership, and supervisory skills; broad knowledge of legal career opportunities, including JD Advantage careers; knowledge of employment trends and professional development issues in the legal profession; excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency with creative uses of technology and information management; the capacity to work constructively and to build effective relationships with diverse constituencies; and the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.

Additional Information 

This position is classified as Exempt, Grade O. Compensation for this grade ranges from $108,330 to $162,490 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
