Administrator Level This position is an Administrator III in the California State University Management Personnel Plan (MPP), reporting to the Dean of the College of Science & Engineering.

Work Schedule Monday through Friday; from 8:00am to 5:00pm
Anticipated Hiring Range $10,762 to $11,958 per month ($129,144 to $143,500 annually)
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Summary The CoSE Associate Deans are second in line to the Dean in responsibility for all aspects related to the operational needs of the College of Science and Engineering (CoSE). In consultation with the Dean, Associate Deans are authorized to make a broad range of decisions necessary to carry out the mission of the College in areas including (but not limited to) course scheduling and availability, instructional budget management, faculty workload management (including teaching, service, and research), faculty research support, student advising, instructional and research facilities, and development of IT infrastructure for college-wide needs. Review of applications and nominations will begin on November 1, 2021. Late applications will be accepted and evaluated until the position is filled.
Position Information Associate Deans will be members of the CoSE Executive Leadership Team and will serve, when necessary, as the Dean’s representative.
Strategic Planning and Execution • With the CoSE leadership team, help set the strategic direction of the College and work towards implementation of the strategy. • Develop and implement student success plans in close coordination with the Division of Undergraduate Affairs and Academic Planning and with the Division of Graduate Studies. • Develop new curricular and RSCA programs in collaboration with partners at SF State and with external stakeholders. • Direct selected areas of CoSE's portfolio of programs and activities. • Participate in the financial management and assessment of CoSE. • Serve as liaison to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the California State University Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research. Curricular and RSCA Management • Provide leadership and support for the development of innovative STEM curriculum. • Provide support for program review and accreditation processes • Work with departments to develop a course schedule that drives student success and is consistent with the instructional budget. • Facilitate collaboration between departments, Academic Planning and the Academic Senate. • Anticipate changes in instructional costs based on enrollment projections, faculty initiatives, and STEM education research. • Manage the CoSE Student Project Showcase, an annual event highlighting student research with faculty mentorship. • Integrate faculty research, scholarship and creative activities as essential elements of COSE curriculum. • Delegated signature authority for personnel, travel, leave requests, grants, and other documents as needed. • Serve as a liaison in collaborative research with other SFSU colleges and with organizations external to SFSU. • Ensure effective operations of College research centers and facilities. Faculty Affairs • Assist the Dean with faculty hiring, retention, tenure and promotion processes. • Work with Dean and departments to establish and maintain equitable faculty workload practices. • Support faculty research, scholarship and creative activities. • Manage college-wide committees. • Work with Institutional Research to assist department chairs and directors with program data acquisition, analysis, and application. • Work with COSE Financial Office to coordinate support of PIs, research functions and start-up packages for new faculty. • Work with COSE departments and with the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development to coordinate collegewide lecturer management. • Serve as primary contact for COSE faculty regarding student conduct. Student Services • Manage the COSE Student Success Center, which provides general advising support to COSE students. • Coordinate faculty major advising with COSE Student Success Center advising. • Manage college-wide scholarships, honors, and student travel. • Manage student petitions and the formal grade appeal process. • Serve as a hearing officer for the Office of Student Conduct. • Address student complaints in consultation with the Office of Faculty Affairs, the Office of Student Conduct, the Action Crisis Team, the Office of Equity Programs and Compliance, and the Dean on Call program. Information Technology and Facilities • Work with Information Technology Services and Academic Technology to develop user-friendly dashboards and web applications to facilitate college operations for students, faculty, and administrators. • Work with Dean and departments to develop and maintain infrastructure for teaching and research. • Advise the Dean on research space allocation. • Advise the Dean on instructional facilities maintenance and construction. • Oversee college-wide equipment and technicians. Organizational Accountability • Professionally represent CoSE and SF State by adhering to professional work standards, image, attendance, and productivity; contribute to committees, work groups, and/or taskforce teams at the college, university or system level. • Participate in organizational activities that support the development and implementation of various projects including specialized activities identified by the Dean, Academic Affairs, the University President, or the Chancellor's Office. • Attend association meetings or training sessions as a representative of CoSE.

Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Qualifications • 8+ years of experience in teaching and research as a tenured or tenure-track faculty member. • Qualifications to serve as a full professor in a CoSE discipline. • Experience managing academic operations at the department or college level. • Successful administrative leadership in a STEM department. • Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. • Demonstrated effectiveness in seeking and securing research funding. • Outstanding analytical skills. • Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external constituents. • Supervisory experience. • Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. • Experience in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. • Experience implementing solutions reflective of the University’s mission and its commitment to diversity. • Record of maintaining professional business standards and work ethics. • Experience serving as a role model and a mentor to others.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience as a faculty member in the California State University system • Successful leadership experience in major STEM research project management. • Familiarity working in a unionized university environment and with collective bargaining agreements. • Experience with major research facilities or infrastructure • 5+ years as PI of federal research grants. • Experience in university development and fundraising.
