Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Primary Purpose of the Position:

Fayetteville State University Broadwell College of Business and Economics is seeking applicants with credentials in professional or business communication for an open-rank, tenure-track position to begin in August 2024. Responsibilities include teaching courses in business/professional communication (undergraduate and graduate), carrying out an active research agenda, and engaging in university and professional service.
Description of Work Continued:
Teaching-80%:
  • Teach classes in Business communication with a 4/4 teaching load, as determined according to the college’s workload policy. Classes may include face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online delivery methods.

Scholarships/Service-10%:
  • Participate in active scholarship, teaching, and service in the areas of business/professional communication, including curriculum/course development, active academic research, assessment of student learning outcomes, and quality service.


Engagement-10%:

  • Engage with students by advising the North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda Students’ Association, participating in national competitions, and running student-run activities on campus, as well as engaging in project-based learning.
  • Actively participate in department, college, university, professional, and community service consistent with the mission and strategic goals of Fayetteville State University and the Broadwell College of Business and Economics.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Earned a Ph. D./DBA or equivalent from an AACSB-accredited school in professional/business communication or a closely related field; ABDs will be considered.
  • At least two to three years of teaching experience, as well as a capacity and willingness to teach a variety of Management/Business communication courses.
  • A record of scholarly and professional accomplishments consistent with the appropriate (Assistant/Associate) rank, as evidenced by scholarly works.
  • A completed Ph.D./DBA with a recent and consistent record of publication in quality refereed journals.
  • A record of relevant non-academic work experience or project-based learning initiatives with local businesses is highly desirable.
  • Good citizenship in terms of service is critical, as is the ability to collaborate well with colleagues.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
A skilled and dedicated teacher with a student-oriented teaching philosophy who is willing to develop real-world and community projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in project-based learning.
