The Office of the Vice Provost for Research, U ST udent StA rtup A cceleratoR (USTAAR) Office has an exciting job opportunity for a highly motivated seasoned Associate Director, USTAAR to work at the University of Miami.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                       

The Associate Director, USTAAR Program at the University of Miami, oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of the University’s premier entrepreneurship and training program. The Associate Director reports to the USTAAR Program Director and collaborates with Associate Director (Technical Operations) to lead the program to a successful implementation and execution. As the lead for the business operations, they are required to engage with representatives from private, government, and international agencies, and engages in fundraising initiatives to carry out the USTAAR programs goals and objectives. They will also engage in the student and team selection for the USTAAR program, mentor the students and teams through various aspects of their startup and product development journeys, create reporting annually for the Director, the Advisory Board, and the external partners, and carry out activities as designated by the USTAAR leadership.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                           

  • Develops and executes recruiting, marketing, and communications strategy.
  • Represents the University at various conferences, events, and school visits.
  • Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Improves work process systems to enhance efficiency.
  • Leads academic planning and curriculum development.
  • Recruits faculty, students and staff as necessary to meet program needs.
  • Analyzes and evaluates data to determine student educational needs and satisfaction with current programs.
  • Prepares program budgets as well as income and expense projections.
  • Conducts benchmarks with other institutions for marketing comparisons.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. 
  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                        

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field. MBA, Law degree, Engineering degree, Entrepreneurship experience preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in business development, investor relations, or program development.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.

Department Specific Functions

  • Collaborates with Associate Director (Technical Operations) to lead the program to a successful implementation and execution.
  • Leads and engages with representatives from private, government, and international agencies, and engage in fundraising initiatives.
  • Engages in the student and team selection for the USTAAR program, run the competition.
  • Mentors the students and teams through various aspects of their startup and product development journeys.
  • Creates reporting annually for the Director, the Advisory Board, and the external partners, and carry out activities as designated by the USTAAR leadership.
