Job Description

Oversees all aspects of the university’s marketing and communications efforts to develop, implement, evaluate and refine a comprehensive marketing communications initiative. Supervises the directors and the daily activities of the Department of Marketing and Strategic Communication in support of an integrated marketing communications plan to achieve maximum impact with diverse constituencies.  Uses innovative marketing strategies to contribute to the university priorities (as outlined in the University Strategic Plan) including, but not limited to, enrollment, advancement, and elevating the university profile. Reports directly to the Vice President of University Relations/Marketing and Communications.

Essential Duties:

-30% Lead, motivate, supervise, and evaluate the department personnel in Creative Services, Media Relations, Web Services, Video Services, and strategic advertising campaigns. 

-30% Develop and implement an advertising plan; plan for and manage the budget to support the Division of Marketing and Communications and oversee staff in implementing programs to reach University short – and long – term goals, including; University promotion to the media and influential parties; advertising and outreach to build the University reputation; developing, designing, and writing print and electronic materials to promote the University strengths; developing and executing a social media plan for the University; consistently reinforcing University messages across all media and to all audiences; consistently reinforcing and protecting the University brand;

-30% Lead branding and communications efforts for the university on a regional, state-wide, and national level.

-10% Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

-Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, media, business, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

-Seven years of progressively responsible management experience in marketing, media, or public relations, advertising, communications, or related field with recent experience in higher education or in a higher education supporting organization. 

Preferred Experience:

-Background in advertising and athletics-related media markets

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Superior leadership, professional, and organizational skills.  Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with technology-assisted communications and marketing. 

-Proven ability to generate imaginative solutions and create cost-effective alternatives, including the ability to proactively position University experts and news stories with media outlets.

-Proven and superior ability to build consensus and lead diverse teams. 

Other Requirements:

Occasionally work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
