DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement utilizes resources, technology, and business for the purpose of soliciting alumni, donor engagement, donor research, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. Our mission is to inspire and steward meaningful, lasting relationships that elevate engagement and giving to fulfill Emory’s mission to serve humanity. The Marketing and Donor Participation team consists of marketing strategists, fundraising and stewardship professionals, writers, designers, photographers, videographers, digital strategists, social media strategists, UI/UX designers, and web developers with a passion to engage and persuade alumni donors to engage with and invest in the work of Emory. This position will report to the Senior Associate Vice President for Engagement, Communications, and Marketing. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Provides strategic leadership for all broad marketing and fundraising initiatives for Advancement and Alumni Engagement as well as the production of highly customized donor communications.
  • Develops and implements an integrated and cohesive strategic marketing and communications plan to advance the University's fundraising efforts; broadens awareness of programs and activities; increases the visibility of programs across key constituent audiences.
  • Provides strategic oversight to promote and enhance all efforts related to interaction with key University constituents, including alumni, parents, grateful patients, volunteers, donors, and organizations.
  • Leads the content and creative strategy, university marketing and donor participation, healthcare marketing and donor participation, and digital strategy teams.
  • Develops all elements of the Division's social business, designing and driving social media strategy and tactics.
  • Leads teams responsible for: creating effective solicitation programs, strengthening donor relationships through comprehensive donor management, recognition, and stewardship programs.
  • Oversees the development of identity standards and visual guidelines based on strategic vision for campaign success.
  • Oversees the design and maintenance of the AAE website and online strategy for the division.
  • Directs and implements marketing automation strategy via Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) using industry best practices.
  • Directs the creation and development of fundraising initiative marketing plans, special event advertising, marketing kits, social media, and other communication materials that support division strategic goals, broadens exposure, or promotes the image/brand.
  • Develops strategy and metrics for the department.
  • Reviews and analyzes various forms of data and analytics to develop reports, track progress, and identify new growth opportunities.
  • Stays abreast of latest trends in marketing, video, social media, and digital strategies across university, healthcare, and for-profit sectors.
  • Manages relationships and negotiates contracts with vendors.
  • Manages a department budget.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Assistant Vice President may be required to:

  • Represent the department or serve as primary contact working with other departments across the division/University.
  • Recommend appropriate communication and engagement strategies and programs to generate gifts to support Emory's strategic priorities, educational, research, and/or patient care activities.
  • Partner with AAE leadership and other stakeholders in identifying and implementing marketing opportunities that strengthen the University's relationship with its constituents.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the schools and units to serve as the lead strategist in advancing constituent giving and donor solicitation.
  • Some night and weekend work is required.
  • Some travel may be necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and ten years of experience in higher education, advancement, fundraising, healthcare, or equivalent experience in a non-profit institution with a minimum of five years managing staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful candidates will possess strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and effective presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing volunteers and events, leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial reports, working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Master’s level degree.
  • Prior experience in advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines. 

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
