Job Summary

The Assistant Vice President for Athletics Development/Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Development will serve as the chief development officer for Athletics and have strategic oversight of Drexel Athletics fundraising and engagement efforts.

The incumbent will lead the Drexel University Athletics' fundraising though strategic planning, execution, and solicitation of philanthropic gifts to Drexel University Athletics program. This position is accountable for spearheading initiatives focused on Athletics fundraising and monitoring and reporting on progress toward goals. This individual will be an accomplished development professional, who will continue to promote an environment of excellence, emphasize best fundraising practices and collaboration through executive presence, demonstrated communication and strong leadership skills.

Essential Functions

  • Secure principal and major gifts and develops future donors by pursuing the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations for Athletics.
  • Build and manage a dynamic and evolving portfolio of 75-100 or more prospects and suspects who are believed capable of making commitments of $50,000 or more, based on giving patterns, prospect research, and other indicators.
  • Ideate, lead and execute athletics-focused campaigns focused on annual support and capital projects to support Drexel Athletics funding priorities.
  • Coordinate with the Vice President and work with IA colleagues and Athletics coaches and staff in developing and implementing programs that encourage constituents to progress as donors by joining the Anthony J. Drexel Society ($1,000 or more annually). Constituents may include alumni, former players, faculty, staff, parents, friends, etc.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of Drexel Athletics annual and capital fundraising campaigns for the Department and 18 varsity sports which includes annual appeals and day-of-giving campaign.
  • Work closely with administrators, coaches, and staff members to promote fundraising strategies tailored to varsity sports programs, their histories, and their funding base.
  • Represent Drexel Athletics to a broad range of constituencies, including trustees, alumni, friends, parents, faculty and staff, senior corporate executives, and foundations.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in athletics fundraising within a development program, preferably in an educational institution.
  • Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $50,000+.
  • Familiarity with planned giving concepts and experience in soliciting planned gifts.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on a frequent basis.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Staff and volunteer management experience.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills and an understanding of prospect-centered fundraising combined with strategic planning experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education advancement.
  • Experience leading a capital campaign.
  • Experience working with senior-level executives.
  • Knowledge of prospect management systems.
  • Knowledge of database fundraising software CS Advance.
  • Web fundraising experience.

Hybrid: Remote/University City, Philadelphia PA

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade O Compensation for this grade ranges from $108,330 - $162,490 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
