Position Summary and Duties | Serve as a key member of the division’s leadership team supporting the vision and mission of the University. Provide leadership, vision, and strategic planning in developing programs/services; and directing and managing the total operation of a comprehensive centralized career services center. Must be innovative and possess a working knowledge of current best practices in university career services; work collaboratively with key constituencies including academic departments, Executive Administration, Deans, graduate programs, administrators, staff, and alumni as well as employers and students. Represent the University by marketing the students and Career Services to a broad range of constituents, including employers, undergraduate/graduate students, prospective students, parents, faculty, alumni, other university career centers, and potential donors. Evaluate the success of departmental initiatives and implement the technology tools to reach the department’s goals. Responsible for Career Centers on two campuses. Provide leadership across the university to promote the career success of undergraduate and graduate students. Provide leadership to staff members implementing a program of career development and employment services for Loyola University’s undergraduate/graduate students and alumni to meet the evolving needs of the workforce. Areas of responsibility include career development, employer development, and recruiting services, internship development and placement and experiential education, and web-based information management technologies. Collaborate with the class deans and academic advising center to train on career-related issues. Create and implement plans to drive continuous improvement in student job success outcomes by identifying skills-gap issues that might be impacting placement and pro-actively design programs to address specific needs. Market the University and its students to employers by overseeing an extensive employer relations program including recruiting, internship development, and employer outreach to expand career opportunities for students. Serve as an effective liaison between the college community and employers and graduate/professional schools and alumni contacts. Develop strong working relationships with Marketing and Communications, Alumni Affairs, and employers locally and nationally. Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with all constituencies both within and outside the campus community. Maintain high visibility on campus by engaging with department chairs, associate deans, and other colleagues to advance student career development. Engage with business leaders locally and nationally to maintain relationships and create opportunities for engagement. Chair the Career Advisory Board and serve on external boards and committees as appropriate. Requires travel across the country to cultivate relationships with employers and alumni. Collaborate with Alumni Affairs and Advancement to create engagement strategies to encourage alumni and parents to offer job opportunities to students. Recruit alumni to speak with students on career development strategies. Represent the university in international, national, regional, and Maryland area colleges and employers associations. Participate actively in professional meetings, conferences, and consortium activities. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate all career center personnel while providing opportunities for professional development to stay current with trends in the fields and the workforce. Engage campus partners in the process of external review. Remain current with the field of career services and with workforce trends. Evaluate models of career and professional services and current technologies and recommend/implement system upgrades to provide state-of-the-art software programs for students, employers, and alumni to increase employment opportunities. Evaluate the fiscal needs of The Career Center. Prepare, manage and administer the operational budget, as well as, special program budgets for The Career Center. Identify needs and work across the university to fund important career-related initiatives. Conduct ongoing assessment of The Career Center’s services/programs. Ensure the compilation, analysis, and distribution of comprehensive annual first destination reports on recent graduates and communicate this information to the college community. Assist academic departments with research studies and their accreditation bids as requested. Prepare internal annual/progress reports and other career survey reports, such as BusinessWeek and Annual Survey of Educator Supply and Demand, as requested |
Required Qualifications | Master’s degree required More than 8 years experience working in Career Services or comparable field Good working knowledge of higher education administration and education policies. Demonstrated competence in strengthening and expanding internal and external relationships. Demonstrated leadership experience and supervisory skills. Experience with program assessment, on-line career delivery systems/services management. Well-developed fiscal and budget management skills. Excellent working knowledge of on-line career management systems or similar software essential. Demonstrated skills in project management, employer relations, organizational development, and customer service. Possess a thorough understanding of the career development process and student development theory as it relates to students career choice and skill development Multicultural competency and demonstrated ability in fostering an inclusive climate for students, staff and faculty. Proven track record of developing and maintaining academic, employer and alumni partnerships. Proven ability to provide instruction and guidance regarding job search skills, including resume development, interview skills, and experiential learning, and a demonstrated ability to develop, promote, and maintain programs is essential. Ability to support the University’s goals for institutional diversity, as well as the goals and values of a Catholic, Jesuit education. |
