What you need to know

  • Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent in this position will be required to be in office 100%.

  • The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Job Summary

The Assistant Transportation Researcher, under general supervision, conducts transportation pavement and materials research using literature review, statistical analyses, and independent investigations. Assists with proposal preparation, data collection and compilation, data analysis, laboratory testing, and report preparation. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

This position will serve within TTI’s Flexible Pavement program in the Materials and Pavement Division. Within this role, the researcher will perform and assist with research in the areas of pavement design, construction, material properties, material design, and maintenance.

Essential Duties

  • Conducts research studies, including data collection and statistical-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyses, literature reviews, and other related activities. 10%

  • Conducts pavement failure investigations, develops a sampling and laboratory testing plan.  Synthesizes data and develops pavement rehabilitation options. 40%

  • Prepares written reports and develops and delivers presentations. 10%

  • Independently develop and run laboratory test programs. 20%

  • Interacts with sponsors and potential clients. 10%

  • Prepares proposals. 9%

  • Other duties as assigned. 1%

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

  • Zero years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of pavement recycling including FDR and CIR practices.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on highway construction projects.

  • Work experience or education covering pavement design and pavement materials.
