Definition of Class

This position coordinates and provides academic advising and support, oversees and coordinates the admissions processes and maintenance of student record, and assists the Dean with general administrative duties.

The University of Mississippi School of Business Administration is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced individual to fill the role of part-time Assistant to the Dean for Academic Support. This position provides academic advising and supports the Assistant Dean for Student Services with tasks related to student recruitment, admissions processes, maintenance of student records, student progression and graduation. The incumbent will also be instrumental in transitioning the School of Business Advising Office to a new Student Information System. This position is eligible for a hybrid/remote work arrangement.  The incumbent will be expected to work from the office as needed for meetings and must be able to commute to campus on short notice if unplanned projects arise. Transportation and housing will be the responsibility of the employee.


Examples of Work Performed


•    Attend meetings and provide input on implementation of student information system. Serve as liaison between SIS project team and the School of Business.
•    Participate in activities related to recruiting undergraduate students, including: processing responses, meeting with prospects, and attending university sponsored recruitment events.
•    Advises students individually through electronic means, maintains degree audits, evaluates transfer transcripts and student enrollment.
•    Maintains correspondence with students and handles problems involving grade appeals and faculty complaints.
•    Facilitates communication from the Dean's office to the students.
•    Authorizes drop/add requests, grade appeals, permission to transfer, study abroad, and iStudy applications for students.
•    Verifies graduate requirement prior to conferring degrees and determines honors graduates.
•    Interacts with other offices across campus including admissions, financial aid, UMatter, registrar, CSSFYE
•    Works in conjunction with other departments to develop improved processes for handling applications and student records.
•    Represents the school at committee meetings and other functions as needed.
•    Retrieves data and prepares reports for various projects.
•    Serve on implementation team for student information system.
•    Supports registration, admission, and records activities that support the Dean's office.
•    Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

  • Advises students regarding degree requirements and maintains related advising system.
  • Coordinates registration, admission, and records activities that support the Dean’s office.
  • Serves as a liaison to students and external stakeholders regarding various information and opportunities.

  • Minimum Education/Experience

    Education:
    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

    AND

    Experience:
    Three (3) years’ experience advising or administrative experience.
