Assistant to the CALS Associate Dean of AAD

About the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy and environmental resources; and social, physical and economic well-being.

About CALS Alumni Affairs and Development

The CALS Alumni Affairs and Development team coordinates and manages fundraising, engagement programs, donor relations, business partnerships, and stewardship for the College. We work closely with CALS senior leadership, faculty, and staff to set goals in alignment with college priorities and interdisciplinary initiatives. We develop and participate in a wide range of innovative and purposeful fundraising and engagement activities throughout the year. CALS averages about $33M in gifts each year, with support from businesses, corporations, and foundations averaging $10M annually.

The Opportunity

We seek an Assistant to the Associate Dean of CALS Alumni Affairs and Development who embodies our values of leadership, integrity, and collaboration. This role provides principal staff support to the Associate Dean, coordinating workflow, tracking a multitude of tasks and deadlines. The Assistant to the Associate Dean is critical in supporting our dynamic environment, connecting high-level donors, university leaders, and stakeholders from New York State and the agriculture and food industry.

Key Responsibilities

Executive and Administrative Support: You will provide principal staff support to the Associate Dean, managing her complex calendar, coordinating high-level meetings, and ensuring effective workflow and project completion. This includes managing travel arrangements, preparing documentation, and following up on critical actions. Partner with the Associate Dean to triage specific items, tracking action items and deadlines, coordinating follow up specific to emails and contact reports.

Strategic Project Management: Monitor and track progress on various projects, ensuring timely and thorough completion. Manage the alumni affairs and development calendar and meeting requests for the CALS Dean's schedule, ensuring timely briefing materials and appointment details. Assist in identifying priority engagements for the Dean with top donors and managing complex schedules.

Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the first point of contact for inquiries, managing relationships with stakeholders and coordinating campus visits. You will also manage communication, including drafting correspondence and handling confidential inquiries with discretion.

Volunteer and Event Support: Oversee logistics for the biannual meetings of the CALS Advisory Council and other high-level donor meetings. You will also maintain volunteer information for the CALS Advisory Council membership list and respond to inquiries and requests from members. Assist with committee meetings.
