JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Theatre invites applications for a one-year limited-term, non-tenure line Assistant Teaching Professor position in Directing. Start date August 2021. This position joins the faculty in the nationally recognized MFA Directing for the Musical Theatre program. This program prepares graduate students to enter the highest levels of the musical theatre and academia.


Duties include participation in the mentorship and instruction of up to four graduate students in classes, studio projects and productions. Responsibilities may also include teaching undergraduate directing classes, and the direction of studio projects as well as the possibility of directing in the Penn State Centre Stage season. Student recruitment, faculty committees and governance are also required.
Qualifications include a terminal degree in theatre with an emphasis on directing, as well as significant professional experience as a director in multiple styles - especially, but not limited to, musical theatre. A commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the theatre is essential. A diversity statement describing the applicants work in this area is expected, along with a statement regarding teaching philosophy and the training of graduate students. While this program primarily focuses upon the musical stage, students in the program are prepared to work in all styles and genres of the field.
