Job Summary
 
The School of Marketing invites candidates to apply for the Assistant Teaching Professor of Sport Management position beginning in August 2024. The position will support our growing Sport Management BSBA and Sport Management MS programs, and Sport Security Management Graduate certificate. Candidates with extensive knowledge and experience in a variety of sport management and business-related courses are especially encouraged to apply. 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • The candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester (or equivalent) to be determined by the Director of the School. The successful candidate's teaching obligations will support the Sport Management BSBA degree, Sport Management MS degree, and the Sport Security Management Graduate Certificate.
     
  • Primary teaching responsibilities are to support the Sport Management BSBA and Sport Management MS programs but may also include support of related programs. 
  • The desired candidate will be willing and able to teach various sport management courses, such as Sport Finance, Sport Law, and others, as needed. 
  • Faculty are expected to maintain quality teaching (both online and in-person).
  • Faculty are expected to maintain active research and contribute service to the mission of the program, School, College, and University.
  • Additional responsibilities may include mentoring undergraduate students, supporting undergraduate research, recruitment, and other service activities (such as committee work and other official activities) for the School, College, and University. Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications  
    Ph.D. in Sport Management or a related field is required. Candidates with ABD status may also be considered but must provide strong evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed before August 2025. 

    Preferred Qualifications  
    Candidates who demonstrate the following are preferred:


    • Experience in developing and delivering face-to-face and online instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level.
    • An emphasis on building connections with diverse student populations and establishing relationships with community business partners.
    • A desire to engage in recruitment and retention of students.
    • The drive to participate in and support a collaborative working environment.
    • A commitment to high impact practices and the ability to teach a variety of courses, such as sport communication, sport finance, sport sales, sport marketing, sport security, and/or sport facility and event management.
    • An interest in supervising student practicum experiences.
    • Practical sport industry experience may be considered in lieu of teaching experience.
    • Relevant teaching experience/interests and demonstrated effective project-focused applied teaching experience.
    • Emphasis is also on candidates who can connect with and relate to our students and challenge them to become effective problem solvers according to the School of Marketing's mission/vision.
