GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Illinois Institute of Technology is accepting applications for an assistant teaching professor position specializing in astronomy and astrophysics. The academic appointment will be in the Illinois Tech Department of Physics, and the expected start date is August 15, 2024.
We seek candidates with a strong Astronomy/Astrophysics background to co-direct our growing astrophysics program and teach undergraduate courses in physics and astrophysics. Teaching assignments may include Introduction to Astrophysics, Observational Astronomy, Extragalactic Astrophysics, Stellar Astrophysics, Mechanics, E&M, and Modern Physics. We seek a dynamic and engaging instructor with demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, dedication and commitment to student success and educational innovation. Teaching professors in the department typically teach three courses per semester in the fall and spring terms, become members of some service committees, mentor and advise undergraduates, and help with recruitment activities. Opportunities for summer teaching employment may also be available. An ability to engage undergraduate students in research projects would be highly welcomed.

Qualifications


Education & Experience
A Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a related field is required; prior astronomy or astrophysics teaching experience is desirable, but not required.
