The University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein College of Education invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Elementary Education. This is a full time, non-tenure-track position. It is a one-year appointment, to begin Fall 2024, with the expectation for yearly renewal. The position is covered under the URI/AAUP contract. The primary responsibilities include elementary education course and program coordination, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary education and related areas. There is also an expectation for University and College service, as well as service in educational leadership at the state, regional, and (inter)national levels. This position begins in Fall 2024.
Priorities for faculty in this position will include teaching graduate and undergraduate level courses, supervising student teachers, and working with faculty to coordinate the elementary teacher education programs. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to: recruiting and advising graduate students; engaging in program development and accreditation activities; developing and maintaining collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts; and serving on committees within the College and University.
The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their leadership, teaching, and/or service, will enhance the College and University’s commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and academic excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Coordinate, implement, maintain, and lead the elementary teacher education program.
● Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators across the college of education to establish mutually-beneficial and deep partnerships with PK-12 districts and stakeholders.
● Facilitate the recruitment of students to the undergraduate and graduate programs in elementary education.
● Teach courses in the elementary teacher education major, and other education courses as appropriate.
● Supervise elementary teacher education candidates in practicum classroom placements.
● Engage in local, state, regional, and (inter)national professional service in elementary education.
● Work with a diverse population and maintain the program’s particular focus on equity, social justice, culturally responsive teaching and leadership, curriculum and instruction, and evidence-based educational leadership and policy practices.
● Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
● Serve on college and university committees.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printer, word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:

1. MA or M.Ed. in elementary education or related field in education.
2. Record of successful teaching experience in PK-12 public or public charter schools (*please elaborate on this in your cover letter).
3. Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in educational contexts.
4. Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, equity, advocacy, and justice in educator preparation (*please elaborate on this in your cover letter).
5. Experience building collaborative partnerships and relationships with stakeholders in the school community, in the non-profit or business community and in teacher education programs in colleges/universities.
6. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
7. Demonstrated strong written communication skills.
8. Demonstrated experience using data and research-based practices to pursue equitable student outcomes.
PREFERRED:

1. PhD or EdD in elementary education and or related field in education.
2. Evidence of program development in PK-12 schools and/or higher education institutions.
3. Previous experience and/or evidence of success in developing and/or teaching elementary education/educator preparation curriculum.
4. Three or more years as a teacher in a PK-12 public or public charter school, preferably at the elementary level.
5. Experience teaching in a diverse range of school settings.
6. Experience in online teaching and learning.
